Toddler constantly repeating themselves

Hi everyone.

I have a DD who is 2 and a half. Since she started stringing sentences together I have noticed her repeating herself constantly!

For example in the car home from nursery:

DD - "child's name in mummy's car"

I.acknkwledge, she repeats, I acknowledge, she repeats, this can go on 10 + times. I have tried different tactics such as asking her a question like "what colour is mummy's car?" But she just continues.

She does this numerous times throughout the day. Is this normal!? I worry about her development as she was premature so I am just looking for some reassurance that this is a normal part of her development and not something to be concerned over.

Thank you

I understand that when this happens you almost have to agree with them. Also sometimes they're sounding it out to hear if it sounds right. So when they're confident speakers they will stop. My son still does this and he's 6.

I just say: you said that so well and so clear no need to say it again. Sometimes less but it's still something he enjoys. I suppose they are still learning to hear their inner voice. Since my son has started reading, this has become less as his internal voice develops.

Yes, my just turned 3 year old does this constantly. He only stops when I fully acknowledge what he has said.

if I just go “really?” Or “ok” he carries on. If I say “yes, you just saw a police car go past” then he tends to stop repeating it.
