At what point do you get them involved? Do you do it or do the school?

Child massively struggling at school. Just can't cope with the other children and he just blows - likely ADHD and ASD but no diagnosis yet.

I'm so confused by the whole process. Right now i'm on my own and feeling very very alone and distraught.

Just giving this thread a bump in case it reaches someone who missed it first time around. Wishing you the very best OP!

I think if you went to your GP they could refer you. Go with a list of behaviours, or find a relevant checklist you can tick.
You may find more help on the SN Chat board, lots of experienced people there.

So sorry you're feeling that way @CoastalWave Flowers

Have you spoken to the school yet or the GP? Have you found the SN Board on here?

If your child is primary school age, it might be quicker to go through Caudwell Children for the ASD diagnosis.

You can either go through the school or GP.
As it’s the summer it might be best to make an appointment with your GP to discuss your concerns. In September, make an appointment with the school SENCO -
It’s likely the teacher will have already flagged up any difficulties to the SENCO already. The school can make a referral. Start making notes about any behaviours (if any) that concern you at home- the more examples you have, the better. CAMHS will ask you lots of questions so it’s best to have gathered lots of evidence. The school will also do this. It can take a year (or more) to get an appointment with CAMHS so in the meantime I’d want the school to be putting into place some help so that your son can cope in a school environment. They need to gather evidence (two terms worth) to prove that they are doing everything they can to support your son and if this is not working the evidence can be used to apply for an EHCP. This would then mean support for your child. Be persistent, chase up appointments and don’t give up. It’s a lengthy process but the sooner your son gets support, the better.
