I'm bored with all her toys and sitting on the floor with her for hours on end and visiting the same old things! Is there anything we can 'do' together or is she still a bit too young? Any ideas welcome!!

finger painting, scribbling with wax crayons, that's about all mine managed at this age.

plenty of other types of play though, eg washing up bowl full of water and bubbles, couple of plastic cups

you can make cards together. You fold cards. Give her stickers to stick on them. Paint her hands and let her make handprints on them. Let her make a mess and splodges etc. (i'll add at this point messy mat and apron!!) They make brilliant birthday/mothers day/fathers day etc cards for those close to you.
The only thing to watch is her eating it all if she's anything like mine!!

Break it into 2 activities. Go to the park and collect leaves etc together, then stick them to paper/add glitter/paint etc to make collages/cards/calendars.

Feel the same, my dd is 16m and I struggle for ideas for more creative activities, at nursery (because i haven't thought of them for home she enjoys playing with cornflour and water mixed together and loves the sandpit.

I think at this age tho it's still just discovering and learning with shape sorters, books and stacking toys and stuff. My dd had a teaset for xmas and some dinosaurs and now enjoys having a dinosaurs tea party!

get a sheet of lining paper and lots of crayons

water play

blackrock · 16/01/2008 20:20

run a bath, get everything ready, put plastic sheet on floor of bathroom, paper and paint - go wild, then put 1yr old straight in bath!

cornflour and water is also great.

playdough.

glitter and glue- with fingers

sand play - in the garage?

Loves bubbles and water too making bubble beards on mummy! She thinks it's hysterical!

tassisssss · 16/01/2008 20:22

sheet of lining paper and a really really cheep shower curtain.
Put shower curtain down and then you can do any thing.

I used to run a bath in the day for my ds and let him play in it with toys n stuff bubbles are also great. put a huge pile of them on your hand then blow into them making them go every where, mine used to shriek with laughter!

cups and plastic pots in the bath also.

finger paints
play doh is also good. (watch they dont eat it tho!)
Different squidgy foods...jelly is a great one, let then squeeze it through the hands and pat it round.
bread and butter, lurvly squidgy foods!

Thank you so much for all your fab and speedy replies!! There is very likely to be an issue with DD eating the 'craft' and even more likely is her wandering off the shower curtain after 3 minutes and taking 'the craft' with her....!!

don't worry to much. kiddie stuff tends to be mostly non-toxic!!! (In small quntities) dd2 has eaten more chalk than dinner in her time and the amount of times she has had 'rainbow poo' after play dough time is astonishing!!!
yes i am that bad a mother!!

I gave 17 month ds a tub of water, a couple of plastic cups and a cloth while I was doing the washing up yesterday. He loved it and spent ages carefully wiping his plastic table down with the cloth - I was shocked! - very sweet.

We did spend quite a long time mopping up all the water, but he thought that was fun too.

llynnnn · 17/01/2008 12:27

i'm going to pinch some of these ideas for my 18mth old, love the collecting leaves etc (if it ever stops raining!) she loves all crafty things!

she loves finger painting, crayoning, stickers, playdough.
i also got some wallpaper samples/sweet wrappers etc, cut them up into small pieces and let her stick them (like a collage) using a glue stick onto another piece of paper

chrissnow · 17/01/2008 12:59

We have a pringles tube full of quality street cellophane wrappers (christmas leftovers we do eat other stuff too!!!) that we're going to do stained glass windows with soon (i.e. I'll cut out the shapes in card and they can stick colours on the back.
I even collect envelopes from junk mail so they can play post offices and fill the envelopes and 'post' them. Home made post box. Or they just scribble on said envelopes whatever keeps them happy really!!
I don't throw anything away these days. I quite enjoy the hmmm what can we 'make' with this?
