ds1 was always a terrible sleeper and I promised myself this time I would go with the flow, let ds2 find his own routine and not stress.

Well, ds2 now 15 weeks and I am stressed! He was sleeping really well, sometimes going 7 hours and showing real promise of being able to sleep right through when he wasnt hungry.

Suddenly I cant put him down. He falls asleep eating or rocking and no matter how deep asleep he appears to be as soon as he touches the cot he starts to startle, shuffle, stress and this can go on for half an hour to an hour all building up to a cry. I have tried shushing, patting etc but nothing seems to work.

I am thinking of now trying to put him down awake but I am worried about making it worse. I dont want to get him to the point of crying, but the tiredness is starting to kick in now. Any experience or advice appreciated.

have you tried a sleeping bag or muslin under the head to stop feel of cold sheets, sometimes works for DS also smells of you if held under his head whilst snuggling/bedtime feed.

Much easier if you lie down with child and feed them to sleep. When they go floppy, you slip away without disturbing.

Can you take the side off the cot and put it up against your own bed so he's in his cot and your weight is on your bed but you're leaning over into the cot to feed?

Thanks both of you. I do have the side of the cot off and that was working well. I do put him down sort of half lying in his cot and then slip away but didnt think of actually feeding like it, good idea. I will also try something under his head that I use for his last feed.

I think I am just so tired and so worried that history is repeating itself that I cant see the wood for the trees. I think it is too young to expect him to fall asleep on his own so will carry on getting him off with help I think, and use your tips. Cheers
