When could your baby get into the sitting position independently?

My DD is 9.5 months and sits confidently when put in that position but can't get there on her own.

How did this progress for everyone else little ones? She does these little mini sit up things when she is lying on her back as if she is trying to sit up but she can't. She commando crawls at the moment, only occasionally pushing onto her knees so I wondered if maybe that is hindering it as I've seen other babies get onto all fours and kind of push themselves back.

Life would be so much easier if she could change positions a bit easier 😀

Yes babies tend to get into a sitting position by going into all fours first and then sitting back from there. Both my sons learnt this soon after crawling but not before so maybe 10ish months. I don’t think they go from lying to sitting up like we do for a long time (my 18 month still flips onto his tummy first)

DS started getting into the sitting position at 8 months. He would go straight from lying on his back to sitting up. He only started commando crawling at 10 months and getting onto all fours at 10 1/2 months.

My DS started army crawling at 7 months and didn’t do the traditional crawl until 10! Then he started getting into a seated position independently. I think that’s key. Think my DS figured out a way of crawling that would get him places, and had no interest in just sitting. He still doesn’t, runs everywhere! As with everything it’s all about what they’re interested in doing and personality.
