sounds intriguing doesn't it!

My DD seems to be getting her teeth quite slowly - bottom two at 10 months, top 2 at 13 months and another one at the top just come through. All the rest look ready to burst although we are fortunate not to have a grumpy girl while this is all happening. The topic of my message may seem completely unrelated but recently we have started to notice her wet nappies smell a lot stronger than they used to so I did a google search and the following link came up.
www.nhs.uk/magazines/childhealth1-5/Pages/Teethingtips.aspx

does anyone else have any experience of this when a child is teething? initially i thought she wasn't drinking enough but i realised that she is drinking about the same as normal and since i noticed the smell i make sure she has beaker with her all day.

any thoughts? is this normal? i'm worried it could be something more serious than teeth....
all help appreciated!

Does the wee smell just strong or does it smell fishy or foul in any way? If the latter, she might have a urinary infection. If she has any fever I would take her straight to the docs. DD had a urinary infection at that age and it was horrible for her, poor thing.

is she in cloth nappies? some cloth nappies smell strongly of wee if there has been a detergent build up in teh fabric. extra rinses should shift teh build up and reduce the smell. some people like to put a splash of vinigar in teh rinse water as well.

the wee just seems to be strong, not necessarily fishy or foul and she doesn't have a temperature at all. she seems bright and very happy in her self. also she is in disposable nappies so that rules out the build up problem.
thanks for your suggestions.

if the smell continues for a while, I would suggest taking her to the docs just to get her wee tested. My daughter had urine infection for over a week it transpires before she demonstrated any other symptoms...I do notice though that poos smell slightly different when teething (a bit chemical-y) but wonder if that could be the calpoll...
