ADHD - how did you know?

My ds is 3.5 and I suspect possible ADHD due to his behaviour. This has been suggested by a few members of staff at different nursery settings too. A health visitor should be coming to assess ds in the next few weeks.

For anyone who has children with ADHD, what things did you notice? What were those early signs?

Thank you

I’m also concerned about this. DS gets himself in such a state- a tantrum of sorts but whilst in this state he is blinkered- I cannot break the mood. The “tantrums” are irrational (even for a 3 year old) and I’m finding it really difficult at times. Do you mind me asking what signs your son has?

I'm really interested in this thread and hope to bump it by just replying without answering your question op.

Thank you both for responding. Hopefully others will see this thread and give us more of an insight.

@Mamabearinthewoods of course, I don't mind at all.

So with my son, I would say the main things are, impulsiveness, opposional, an inability to calm down, irrational, very hyped up a lot of the time, no personal space with other children.
It's like his brain is going at 100 mph sometimes. He's always been 'lively' since he was a baby but as a toddler his behaviour became much more difficult.

Obviously it's early days and this could all be developmental but we're going to look into adhd too. My son has had a lot of changes in the last year or so too which may have impacted on some of what we're experiencing.
He was 18 months when the first lock down started and didn't go to nursery or anything until last September. So no social interactions with other children for a while. Plus, dd was born last summer, we then moved a few weeks later and ds started at two pre schools. He also had illness after illness for about 6 months including tonsillitis and glandular fever which made him very poorly. So there's been a lot going on for him and I'm trying to keep that in mind as well.

I'm also a primary school teacher and have taught many children with ADHD so maybe it's on my radar more.

Would really like to hear more experiences.

How is his speech and communication? my dc is also like that. He understands well but his speech is like 9 months behind his peers and sounds like a 2 yo. We call him a fart between DH and I as wherever he enters, all the kids move away from him as he also goes from 0mph to 100 as well. Always busy, was highly alert baby. My ds turned 3 this month. He is only starting to walk beside me now in places he knows and not running to the road but if we are in a new place like a train station, he goes wild as he wants to run around and explore. His attention span is much better compared to when he was 15 months old as he can sit down and play and read through a book. He started nursery recently and is progressing but we still have good and bad days and he is behind his peers. He still is wild, active, defiant and difficult to manage but the nursery teachers say he behaves well.
