Took DS (4) to Dr yesterday as he has been withholding his poo's on and off for 2 months now.
Dr has now prescribed us with Fybogel amongst other things should matters get worse.

Every day for 3 months we have to give DS a sachet of Fybogel in water to keep his stools soft. Today was day 1 and guess what? He spat it out. Hates the taste.
Have tried disguising it in orange juice, apple juice, blackcurrant juice....

Does anyone have any tips on how I can get son to drink it as if he doesn't take it his poos will be backing up again and he has been in a lot of pain recently.

Just to add, DD used to withhold poo and go at night after she fell asleep(in nappy, late in giving up nappies at night). She got a fissure, so I took her to the doctor.

Doctor insisted she was withholding because she was constipated and it hurt (and I believed it hurt and she was constipated because she was withholding, because she did not like the toilet for some reason Confused ). I know that is what the books say, but I didn't think it was the case. Anyway, we let the doctor believe that, and she gave us vat of lactulose and children's suppositories.

So, she had the lactulose and then it came to using the suppositories. We discussed the best way to use it. We did it and DD was Shock.

Never had a problem again. Magic cure Wink.

Lactulose worked for my dd who was terrified of no2s - we used it for about 6months gradually reducing the dosage towards the end. Fingers crossed you find something that works!

Thread is > 8 years old so I really hope the constipation has eased!

Movicol and fybogel are impossible to get DD to take, and she suffers from encopresis so really needs the help. I had a major success this week by baking a batch of chocolate chip cookies with a handful of oats and a handful of psyllium husks (the stuff in fybogel). DC and DH have been merrily tucking into them, while I smile to myself in my best evil genius fashion.

I know you tried the prunes but wondered if boiled raisin water might be a better taste? You could probably mix it with apple juice. It worked really well for my ds when he was little

As you're struggling to get him to eat fruit would he drink smoothies? You could easily make them at home

Good spot Eddie - I hadn't even clocked the OP's original post date😳😂!
