Wetting the bed at almost 7

Just wondered if anyone has anything helpful here. I have 3 DC, my youngest 2 are 6 (twins), 7 in a couple of months. One of my twins (DT2) is still wetting the bed. It took me ages to get him out of nappies, he was 5. He had a full week of being dry so I ditched the nappies. A month after that he went back to wetting the bed. It has been peaks and troughs until the last few months, where it has just been constant, every night, sometimes twice a night and it's not a dribble, it's full bladder empty.

I have tried restricting fluid in take before bed, making sure he goes to the loo before bed, even waking him up during the night to go for a pee. But nothing works.

I went to the GP last year but she said they don't even consider him being late in toilet control until age 7!?

So of course I will go back to the GP when he turns 7. But I'd love to hear anything that worked for you lovely mumsnetters. I'm at a bit of a loss.

Other DC were quick out of nappies and have always had good bladder control.

DT2 only started being dry during the day when he was about 4.

He sleeps through wetting the bed, totally unaware until he wakes up cold and soaked. Because of his age, he understands that his friends and sister are not doing this, and it really gets him down.

Unsure if this has any relevance, he had meningitis when he was 7 weeks old, came quite close to death. There is a family history of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, hypermobile type which does for other family members create bladder issues. But he shows no other indication that he might have it.

I have no advise unfortunately.
But know you're not alone, my nearly 6 year old has recently became dry in the night time but still has accidents during the day quite often.
I will say tho she is on medication for bladder control and has been for almost a year, it made a world of difference. I would definitely try and get a second opinion at the GP.

GP out and out refused medication, won't even consider it til he is 7, and even then that's not a definite yes. So yours is dry at night, and mines is dry during the day, maybe if we get them together they'll rub off on each other 😂🙈

That must be difficult @TiptoeThroughTheToadstools. My DN was similar and DSIL made sure he had a lovely long drink in the morning, something like a homemade milkshake or orange juice with fizzy water. On the days he's home with you, keep offering drinks he'll enjoy and get him used to drinking a lot in the morning, then only when he's thirst later. So maybe just a glass of water with Dinner.

It might help or it might not.

Good luck whe you go back to the GP Flowers

My friend’s boy is 6 and has a bed wetting alarm to try to help him out of nappies. It’s working well apparently - have you tried those?

@TiptoeThroughTheToadstools No worries, hope it helps! ERIC is a great resource: www.eric.org.uk/bedwetting-alarms

I know how you feel. My 7yr old is still wearing night time pants during the night and they are hardly dry. We have saw out GP last year, end of October time I think it was and we got a letter through from the paediatric continence team in November say that we need to complete the flow charts and to send them back and that at the moment there is a 6 month wait for an appointment to see someone, so hopefully that will come through soon.

It is a pain, that they wont do anything until then, but for night time wetting it comes down to a hormone that needs to kick in.

I have heard of the alarms that you can get so that might be a possible thing for us to look into as well but then he sleeps like a log not even a thunder storm right over the house will wake him
