Formula Feeders whose babies suffer from colic - advice please

My lo is 5 weeks and has suffered from colic since he was born, was initially breastfed (until I mistook his general unhappiness and crying for hunger and) then switched to Cow and Gate Premium then Cow and Gate Comfort when things didn't improve. I am thinking of changing his formula again to see if it improves things - can anyone advise any formulas that improved things for their babies who had colic. BTW he is currently seeing a cranial osteopath and has colief in his bottles of formula, but any other hints and tips would be gratefully received

My DS had terrible colic on C&G. I switched him to SMA at about 4 weeks on the recommendation of a midwife friend.

While it didn't cure it completely, it certainly made it easier to cope with.. with the help of Infacol.

Other tips include only giving half the feed, then wind baby, then give the rest of the feed and wind again.

If its evening crying thats getting to you, try swaddling and dimming the lights.. being swaddled and in the dark kept DS calmer and it helped him settle to sleep.

Sympathy firststeps...

My DD is a little colicky (bf and SMA Gold), so we wind her in the middle, and we also keep her upright for a good 30 mins after a feed - we either sit her up on our laps or put her in a bouncer. This seems to make 0things better for her, and during the day she's also distracted by the things hanging on the bouncer!

You could also try Gripe Water, but DD hated it and it came straight out... Loves Infacol though! I know someone who administers Gripe Water in a teat which seems completely inspried to me!

Good luck

My 6 month old boy still suffers a little with colic but thankfully its wound down a lot and we've now reduced his Colief drops to 1 per alternate bottles. But when he was 5 weeks old it was horrific. I can really sympathise. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though and I put it firmly in the hands of four things:

Colief takes approx. two weeks to kick in so stick with it - it does work.

Change to Aptamil 1. Cow and Gate - took me weeks to realise the brand just isn't nice on sensitive tummies. He wouldn't take the Comfort milk at all. The Aptamil was immediately less irritable on his little tummy.

When you cradle your baby in your arms, rocking backwards and forwards and side to side, tap his bottom quite firmly and rythmically. Lulls them really quickly.

During the long crying fits alternate between you and your partner so you can work as a team and both keep some sanity.
