Really worried about Autism

Has anyone here has a child who was very bad to respond to their name and turned out to be ok and not autism? I'm so worried for my 13 month old. I know they don't diagnose autism until their 2 but I have a gut feeling that he is. He just seems different to other babies his age. 😭 I'm actually worried sick I feel like I can't wait until he is 2 to get assessed.

The not responding to his name is the only real sign he has and he's also soo shy around new people for about 10-15 mins until he comes out of himself. He claps, points waves( when he wants to) he says mama, dada, nana baba. He will also say uh oh when we say it too. He's a happy little guy who is always smiling and laughing too. Please tell me an autism diagnosis wouldn't be the end of the world 😭

Well, an autism diagnosis wouldn't be the end of the world. He would still be exactly the same child that you have now, and love dearly.

Also, there isn't anything in your post that suggests he does have autism

What you might be wise to do is get his hearing checked.

Well, I’m autistic and aside from being a bit odd/awkward sometimes, I’m fine - I’ve been with my partner over 20 years, we have two brilliant kids (one of whom is also autistic, but thriving at age 11), I work in a job I love. So no, a diagnosis of autism is by no means a disaster. It might be a bit early to worry, or your instinct might be right, who knows, but either way try not to worry about the future and enjoy your son for who is is, right now. It might be worth getting his hearing checked too?

He sounds lovely- the advice on here is great - enjoy him and try not to worry.

@Mummabear10032021 How are things now? Please don’t worry, autism absolutely is not the end of the world. My daughter has a diagnosis, she is the best and makes me so happy and proud every day.
