After a few years of watching and waiting to see if 9yo daughter will grow out of a things myself and school have noticed the senco team and myself have agreed as assessment was needed.
All she just about "passed" the initial assessment Senco has decided to carry on with the referral as even she agrees that doesn't mean much as children can pass these tests on a good day but it doesn't mean much on a bad day.
What we are now looking at is processing speed and Eye Tracking. I have now been sent the contact details for 3 specialist opticians to book a 'School Vision Sight test'.
I have contacted said opticians today and must admit I was taken back by the cost of the test. Now let me make it clear now, I will get this test for daughter and I am thankful we live in a country where out health care is very much primarily funded BUT can anyone tell me why this particular test isn't? I have been googling for hours for more information and just seem to be hitting brick walls.
In my local area this test is going to cost me roughly £100, I have seen in other areas it's even more than that!
The receptionist I spoke to could hear the shock in my voice and actually started apologising, it's not her fault and I did make that very clear to her.
So my question is to any parents that have been through this...
- Why is it not covered?
- What actually happens at said appointment?
- If it turns out that's cleared by the optician, what will the next step be?
Thank you for any advice ☺️
Also if this is in the wrong topic I am sorry I didn't know where to put it 🤷
