Really worried about stuttering in my 2.5 ds? Isn't there someone here who is a SALT?

Seems to be worse with tiredness. He has had phases of it but never this bad. He can barely get his words out and he's going all quiet and sad because of it. Feel so sorry for him.

Am seeing health visitor but don't hold much faith in them really. Am hoping for refferal to SALT, do you think I'll get it?

If so, what's the waiting time?

I am really interested in Indigo Moons experience of the Lidcombe Programme. My son is nearly 4 and started stammering at 2 and a 1/2. We started the programme almost 4 months ago and have not seen any marked improvement. I would love to know if anyone has any tips on making the programme work for them.

hello helen. mmmmmmmmm i found the whole experience really up and down. it did not work straight away by any means but now she is really good (touch wood) to the point where people cannot believe she had a stammer.

how often do you go and do it at home???

what types of activities do you do????

i found that dds problem was that i could not limit her to one word! was impossible so we devised a strategy of either cutting in or praising the part of the speech which was smooth.

i would be more that happy to discuss it with you! i found it a long hard road.

Have been going to local hospital once a week since end of October with a break at Christmas. I guess 4 months. We do 10 mins a day structured play. Activities have been everything from naming actions in books to Simon Says and I Spy. I have the problem that whatever activity we start my son tries to change the rules and at the end of a day at work and having put my other little one to bed it can be so frustrating. Last week we decided to take another break and look at other options. His practice sessions are fine with little bumpy talking but it hasnt effected his day to day speech. How long did it take before you saw improvement?

Hi charmkin

glad you have been referred.

My ds1's GF was actually going on the McGuire Project(Gareth Gates went on it) and is due home today.

I spoke to her on the phone last night and oh god i almost cried. She was able to talk with no stammering at all!!!

Had pauses for deep breaths (i think) and spoke soooo well. She had to do all sorts of stuff, stood on a box in the middle of cardiff and spoke to the public etc,so full of admiration for her

It's good that you are doing something about it Charmkin. Lots od dc stammer and it goes away on it's own but ds1's gf has stammered since she was 3 and it never went away, just got worse and worse
