don't do it

mine pisses all over the place

make him sit down until he leaves home and he can piss all over his own loo

witchandchips · 08/01/2008 12:58

wait until its a bit warmer and the get him to go outside and "water the flowers". Get him to aim for a particular leaf or brunch. He will soon get the hang of it and boy wee is very good for the garden.

luckylady74 · 08/01/2008 13:02

i just positioned him, 'unstuck' his willy if necessary by flicking it [ahem], pushed his bum forward so he did it in the loo and turned the tap on because the sound makes most people wee if they need it. chocolate button for a job well done - and foamy soap's exciting too! i know 6 yr olds and one grown man that sits - it's irritating because you have to find a loo instead of a bush!

fluffymummy · 08/01/2008 13:02

My ds loves being allowed to wee standing up but I hold his willy for him at the moment (he's 2.5), he does that about 1 in 3, the rest he sits down. He can start watering the trees outside even now - it doesn't take long! - and he'll get the hang pretty quick

VictorianSqualor · 08/01/2008 13:07

DS is 3 already, he wees sitting down, as does DP.
Don't let him try to stand up he wont be tall enogh yet, he'll piss all over the floor likeDS did when DD told him he should stand up.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 08/01/2008 13:13

Am wondering about this one myself, ds is 3.
He sits down to wee on the loo and still sometimes sits on a potty. I have bought some of those balls to put in the loo with funny faces on, can't remember the name. They float and supposed to encourage 'aiming' but haven't tried them with him yet. I have heard a ping pong ball works just as well!

Oblomov · 08/01/2008 13:16

I too am wondering this. Ds will be 4 next month. He sits and I did mention to dh that I thought he should teach him. Trouble is mostly ds takes himself to the toilet, without mentioning it.

happypiglet · 08/01/2008 16:04

Put something in the loo to 'aim' at - like Cheerios (that don't block your loo!!) or if you are happy to fish it out a ping pong ball.... does this sound mad? my DS couldn't resist trying to sink things!!!!

fryalot · 08/01/2008 16:06

I wondered about this so asked dp.

dp's wisdom (and he is a bloke after all) is not to worry about it at all - he said that he can clearly remember thinking to himself that he should start standing up to pee. He says that it comes naturally and as long as you have taught him to wee in a potty or a toilet (and not the bloody sink) then you have done a fab job, and he'll sort the rest out for himself.

bubblejumping · 08/01/2008 16:08

I've left mine sitting, but a friend put a coloured golf ball in the loo and told her little boy to aim for that.

Twinkie1 · 08/01/2008 16:15

Leave it - it is a natural progression - they get to the stage where they want to scent your bathroom as a terratorial (spelling wrong but have no idea!) thing - or that is the reason DH gives me for peeing on the pedestal mat regularly!

witchandchips · 08/01/2008 16:17

also being around bigger boys helps

luciemule · 08/01/2008 16:18

DS has literally just potty trained himself in a week. He kept taking off his nappy after only one wee so I let him run naked around the house and kept lots of old bowls and potties around to offer him to wee into.

He loved it and now runs off to find a potty when he needs to go.
Ask him to hit the water at the bottom of the loo as he points his willy.

clayre · 08/01/2008 16:21

my ds 2.9 has been potty trained since june and will wee sitting on the potty, sitting on the toilet and standing at a urinal, so he can stand and pee but not at the toilet, will follow this with interest!

Is it still common for then to still be sitting to wee when they still at nursery, he'll start nursery when he's 3

beansprout · 08/01/2008 16:24

Ds is 3.2 and I have no intention of teaching him this particular skill for a long time to come!! He has been potty trained for over a year but I really don't think this one matters too much. Not yet.
