Should I be worried that my 3 month old is in 6-9 month clothing?

I don't know how heavy he is but I'm guessing DS is about 19lb! He's breastfed so I suppose I should be quite proud (it's helped with weight loss.) However I can't help feeling a) sad that my little boy is growing so fast b) disappointed that the lovely clothes he's got have hardly been worn and c) slightly concerned he's going to be part of the globesity problem. Also, not sure how I'm going to manage feeding him for another 3 months before I can give him solids.

In answer to your title post - no. However i have said this to myself several times. My 7 mo dd was wearing 12-18 month trousers today, her weight gain though scary a few months ago has now levelled and shes just really long! But in short i buy what fits and try not to be toooooo concerned about what it sys on the label.

babyjjbaby · 07/01/2008 21:49

yep i agree buy what fits my 7mo has got a pair of pyjam bottoms size 12-18 mths they are a bit big but he's got long legs

Octo · 07/01/2008 21:51

You're obviously doing a brilliant job - don;t worry about it

ELF1981 · 07/01/2008 21:51

No, my dd was in slightly bigger clothes at that age, she's now 2.3 months and still in 18mths to 2 yr clothes.

diff shops are also different fits.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

My eldest has never been in his age size clothes and is no way shape or form over weight. I used to fret about him so much. AK says he should have 2 cubes at a certain age and he would eat 8. He had some baby fat and was solid but now he is thin and very healthy.

No, do not worry. No.

ELF1981 · 07/01/2008 21:53

I also think weight is a damned if they're in larger and damned if they're in smaller.
I work with four other mothers of young children, (less than 3 yrs) and we're always worrying about what clothes they are in and what weight they are!!

Dixichik · 07/01/2008 21:57

Don't worry about it, you sound as if you have a well fed little lad, once he starts running around everywhere he'll slim down. He may just be naturally big. (My dg is 20 months and is in clothing for a 4-5 year old)

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 07/01/2008 22:00

my ds was HUGE when he was a baby (they wanted to test him for a hormonal imbalance at one point - I refused). At 6 months he was wearing age 18 months etc.

Now he's 4 and is very tall but slim. Large babies are NO WAY an indication that they will be fat children.

(ps dd is 13months and wears age 18-24 months)

theladyevenstar · 07/01/2008 22:30

No no no no NO don't worry,
ds1 was 6lb 7oz at birth he was 16lb exactly at 11 weeks old and at 16 months he was 36lb 13oz. At 5 months he was in clothes for 12-18 month olds, at 16 months he was in 3-4 he is now 9 yrs and in 11-12 clothes difference is now he has lost the weight and is shooting up. Ds2 was 5lb 15oz at birth and like ds1 a month early.... ds2 is now approx 18lb and in 6-9 month clothes at 14 weeks. each baby grows differently....my 2 were hungry and i had to feed them solids early otherwise it was a bottle for what felt like 24/7 solidly.

moocowme · 08/01/2008 10:11

these things are for average babies and their can be big variations. my ds is 3 months and is now into 6-9m stuff. he is not fat just growing very fast.

Agree with the others about not taking too much notice about what it says on the label as all babies grow differently.

Ds grew really quickly out of his newborn and 0-3 months clothes and then seemed to stop (so you might find this?) - he is now 18 mo and is still in 9-12 months clothes (and half of those are still too big for him to wear) - the strange thing is that he doesn't look at all skinny (he has a pot belly, little chubby wrists etc) and feels very solid - but I think it is his length that is short.

My friend bought him some 18-24 month clothes for Christmas - when I thanked her for them, she said 'oh I hope they fit, I thought they might be too small'!! I reckon he might be just wearing them next Christmas!!

I am certainly getting my money's worth out of his clothes - he has been in his 9-12 month clothes for 6 months now and still no sign of needing to swop!

Tommy · 08/01/2008 10:24

my DS1 was always in the next size up as a baby. He's nearly 6 and I have to buy him 7-8 years clothes now. I wouldn't worry about it - you're obviously feeding him good stuff

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/01/2008 10:28

No, not at all. DD was like this - by 18 months old she had slowed right down (as all toddlers do).

It was a shame though - a lot of clothes bought before we had her, and at her birth were never worn - she never fitted newborn - even on day one! (she was 9lb 13oz)

ellensmelons · 08/01/2008 10:43

Hi! I started a thread on the feeding topic list about my dd being big. She's just jumped from the 92% curve to the 98th for weight, and remains at the 98% curve for length. I'm constantly worried about her weight! She's bottle fed, but she never has more than the recommended amt. She has such chubby cheeks -i'm sure they're a pound each themselves! but her body is very long ad i keep telling myself she's going to be long, not 'fat'. Well, my dad was 6 foot 6, so that may have something to do with it.... I think it's becuase she looks so big all the time and everyone comments. But all they can see are those cheeks!

BTW she's 13 weeks and 15lb 11oz. And she's GORGEOUS!
