9 month old behind

Hi there

My 2nd baby is 9 months, he isn't weight bearing, only just cracked sitting unaided, and that's if you sit him up he can't sit up from laying down . He only rolls over and claps but nothing else. He's very slow when you hold out an object he grasps for it but his arm is like in slow motion and when he brings toys to his mouth again he is slow. He still not that interested in solid food yet although I am offering him it. He got held back in swimming class as he couldn't hold his head up and other babies who were younger went up to the next class before him.

People have been saying not to worry he will catch up until someone else said I better get him checked out by health visiting team and doctors. He has an assessment in two weeks.

I have thought he was ok and was just a bit behind, however there is a drastic difference between him and his older sister who was almost walking at this point and he is still in the new born next to me crib and naps in his Moses basket as he doesn't attempt to sit up or roll or anything.

I've obviously now googled and freaked myself out. It look like he has lots of the early symptoms of Cerebral palsy.

Could he still just be "normal" and be a bit slow, has anyone else had a slow baby who turned out to be fine and catch up eventually?

Thanks

I know it's easier said than done, but it's best to wait and see what is said at his development appointment. Mention the things you have mentioned here.

Comparing him to your older child is unfair. Kids develop at different stages and she is just one example. again, I know it's easier said than done.

It must be hard to not compare to your older child.

My boy has just turned 12 months, and wasn't clapping until 10 months (yours already is!) he didn't roll until 8 months either.

I would wait a bit longer to see how he develops. See if his sitting improves

How is he

Paediatrician have checked him for several conditions including possible tethered cord and also cranial malformation all of which he was cleared for. He was however diagnosed with hypotonia ( low muscle tone) which has had a knock on effect for his entire development. He's under consultant care at a centre for disabled children, he has had physio and started walking at 19 months. I don't take him outside tho as although he can walk he is incredibly unsteady on his feet. He's still got reflux, and he's also got undescended testicles and we've been referred for surgery. He had positional head flattening also because of the hypotonia that he spent so much more time laying on his back. He also has speech delay and is currently 21 months and doesn't communicate at all, he has no words he doesn't point or nod his head, there is no communication to indicate what he wants. Having said all this, he is very happy, social, makes eye contact, laughs, plays with his sister, loves a cuddle, is eating well now and is a gloriously fat gorgeous boy.
