Blocked nostril, not cold.

One blocked/partial blocked nostril. Tried teasing DD1's nostril, but did not work. She is breathing through her mouth most of the time, making it difficult for her to feed. Also not settling down easily.

Any other tricks?

saline and a nasal aspirator (snot sucker in our house)?

dont mean to appear rude but how do you know its a blocked nostril - how old is your baby

Nasal aspirator? What is that? Dont think we have that at home.

Sterile saline solution for contact lenses should be ok?

KentGirl - DD1 is 7 week old.

She is making all sorts of noises when breathing. Tried putting a finger on one nostril, and then the other. Right nostril is clear, but not left (very little air coming out of it).

If not a blocked nostril, what else can it be?

They are like a soft rubber ball with a very soft and flexible short tube at the top.You put the saline drops in and leave for a min then squeeze the air out of 'ball'insert the tiny tube in the nostril then release ball. The suction motion will -hopefully-remove any hardend snot.
You can buy them from boots and superdrugs.Fantastic when they have colds.

Well my daughter was born with both her nostrils (inside her nose closed) - please dont panic, am sure its nothing like this for you - because you can feel air out of her nostrils... because my daughters were both blocked, essentially she couldnt breath although automatically she began to mouth breath which newborns cant do - babies are natural nasal breathers for about 6 months...however if it is just one nostril then it can go unnoticed, but if you think its effecting her breathing might be worth taking to docs - am sure she is fine, please dont worry and dont think i am being rude, my daughter is 6 now and if fine!

Finds DD1 has a lot of snot - is that common for babies?

The blocked nostril just started this afternoon after a long crying. Was cleaning her face and DD1 never like it, but she was terribly not pleased with it today.

KentGirl - Good to hear that your daughter is doing fine.

Reckon DD1 is just having a bad snot day. Hopefully it clears soon.
