Why does my 3-yr old tell everyone he is Peppa Pig

Since turning 3, my eldest has been telling new people that he meets that he is Peppa pig. He’s actively told everyone from the butchers, the checkout girls, to the optician - that he is Peppa Pig. He also refers to family members as Peppa Pig characters - much to the annoyance of the grannies - both of whom have acquired the alias ‘grandma pig’.

It started seemingly spontaneously and we’ve not encouraged it - though nor have we done anything to discourage it. But he’ll be 4 in a few months (so it’s been going on a while) and what makes it worse is that he has only seen the show a couple of times.

Can anyone shed any insight into what’s happening here and share experiences?

He loves the alliteration sound of peppa pig. Plus, he's 3. One 16yo I know insisted that she was a dog from age 3 to age 6. She grew out of it and is reasonably well adjusted now.

Join in the fun and insist that actually you are bob the builder today. Tomorrow you can be someone from paw patrol or octonauts. Its just a game. Kids don't have much the the way of boundaries between when its a game and when it's not.

kids have weird habits their just kids its like when mine was obsessed with rocks .Its just games and silliness all part of childhood.I agree with buano

They move onto the next thing eventually

I had a dinosaur and a shark.Grin At least Peppa can talk to you without you needing to interpret roars and bubble speak /telepathic messages! Enjoy it, it’s harmless and quite endearing in its way. He’s only 3, exploring language and inaginative play. Maybe the grannies could watch Peppa with him sometimes and rise to his level?

Our DD inhabited a weird sort of fantasy world when she was 3. Not Peppa, but I remember quite a few different pretend identities and woe betide me if I questioned any of them. I think it's all developmentally normal and part of imaginary play. He'll grow out of it eventually!

Late 2, early 3 is when Simon the dog arrived . Simon is nothing like his actual name but we had to address him as Simon the dog well into reception class.

He is now nearly 10 and as annoying and bizarre it was back then, I bloody miss that dog.

My ds was a dog at that point. He used to speak in barks at times. He's grown out of it.

My 3yr old nephew told everyone he was Herbie the LoveBug, he insisted on being called Herbie.

Oh my, these aliases are amazing. The imagination and inventiveness of children is wonderful. Not worried per se about our Peppa pig - it’s just nothing I’ve experienced before (for such a sustained period that is).

@NippyNippy I actually LOLed when I read about Simon the dog. It made me feel quite glad that ‘Peppa Pig’ is still the decided personality for my DS as it reminded me that children grow up so quickly.
