Can someone pls tell me more about tummy time. I pop my DS (10 weeks) on his tum, and he looks pretty bemused, pushes around a bit and sometimes lifts his head, but doesn't seemd that enthused. I lie beside him and chat away and he can lie there happily for a while, but I am not sure what should be happening. How often should we do this, should I be doing more when he is there etc?

Don't bother, Em...they learn to roll pretty soon anyway and then they can be whatever way up they want, iyswim. Have you ever seen a child whose head hung down all the time?

Tis another useless invention of the health Visitor to make us feel inadequate.

ds hated it, dd1 OK with it, dd2 hated it - so gave up. All of them crawled then walked by 12 months - makes no difference!

thank you, if it is possible for a 10 week old to look at you as if you were mad, then ds was doing it while I blathered away on the floor next to him. Pleased I am not going to ruin his life if I don't persevere for the daily routine I was recommended by HV!

I never did tummy time with any of my 9. Never existed when I had my older children. They don't seem any worse the wear for not doing it.

Entirely possible! I still remember the hysterical laughter from hv and I at the sight of my ds with 'mild head lag' - i.e. lying in the middle of the table as an ENORMOUS 4 month old unable to get his head off the table and just these little eyes peering out as if to say 'and just what's so funny, hey, hey??!!'. He still has an enormous melon and is currently almost out of his medium adult cycle helmet (dh size) at 7yrs old.

If he doesn't mind it let him have do it, gives him a different view on the world.

My dd hated it so I gave her tummy time on my or dh's chest. She stared crawling at 7 months so it didn't do her any harm.
