For the last 12 months What to Expect in the First Year has been the book I've turned to for advice, together with Dr Sears.
Now DS is turning one, any advice from more experienced parents on what books might suit me next would be very welcome. (Or should I save my money and go with my instincts)
I like What to Expect in the First Year because it answers my questions without making me sign up to a philosophy of parenting, while I like Dr Sears because my breastfed DS isn't yet sleeping through and tends to cosleep - and this book doesn't make me feel I'm doing it wrong. Suggestions please.

what to expect the toddlers years is good for dipping in and out of.my sister lent it to me when i had dd-now 7-and im still using it time to time.i think they updated it too.i mainly think trust your instincts but i use this for tips on things such as potty training.

Toddler Taming by Dr Christopher Green

I like The Social Toddler by Helen & Clive Dorman. It's not a 'how to' book, more about understanding how toddlers think and act. It's based on hours of filming with parents and toddlers (uses lots of photo stories).

I really like Penelope Leach. I have her book "Your Baby and Child" (I think) which covers up to about 5yo. It's deffo not a "how to" book, but more about what children are like iyswim. It certainly helped me to adjust my expectations of my two and to communicate with them more effectively.

I like both 'your baby and child' and 'the social toddler'
helps me to understand the crazy world of toddlers and feel less frustrated

Not keen on Dr Sears (what I'vr read on the net or seen on Oprah), couldn't stand Penelope Leach's book, but Christophers Green toddler taming really puts a perspective on things, and its worth it for the pictures, made me laugh so much.

and the What to Expect books are good as well.

Thanks for your suggestions - Toddler Taming had caught my eye
Are there big schools of thought in toddler books as there are with babies (eg Gina Ford, Baby Whisperer etc) and if so where do Christopher Green, Penelope Leach etc stand
