which is right, big box of goodies which kids dip into or sweets rationed by parents? DH and I don't agree

In his family they had a big box of sweets, chocolate and crisps which was basically a free for all. In my family it was a strict sweet ration on a Saturday morning only. Both DH and I have healthy diets now. But what should we do when DS of 15 months gets older? I am pretty much keen to avoid him eating junk for as long as possible, DH feels that you shouldn't make things forbidden or it makes it more attractive... any tips appreciated!

we don't have sweets in the house at all.

Which is not to say we and ds dont' have them - we do, but it's a packet of sweets bought now and then.

I think having them in the house would be so much harder for us; ds would want them all the time and I don't want to be saying no all the time. And he has many many less sweets this way, I'm sure, because it's out of sight out of mind, isn't it?

When my children were smal we had a sweet day once a week uusually on a Saturday. The girls were alowed to choose a smal amoubt of swets from the local shop and they were quite happy with this. We did have biscuits in the house but they were handed out to the children

We have sweets all over the house, I'm forever finding more but they rarely get eaten.

I think we have 2 easter eggs left untouched and we haven't even opened the tin of biscuits we bought for christmas that we took to my MIL's and then she made us bring them home again.

It's nice that I know there's something in should any of us want it but I mainly put it on top of the kitchen cupboards when I find it so littlest one can't get hold of it. (her favourite word is chocolate )

Kt i too rarely buy crisps, biscuits, choc or such like. ds1 (9) is rarely allowed these things even when we are out, i do make desserts though, apple crumbles, fruit and cream, etc. I dont allow fizzy drinks or juices just flavoured waters and milk. but then i am an evil mum i have been told cos i expect ds1 to do things for himself lol and at this moment in time he hates me today.
