How can I stop my 7 year old ds peeing EVERYWHERE???

It is driving me mad. Every time he's had a pee, it is all over the rim, seat, floor, usually his pants and trousers too. Does anyone have any pee friendly tips? Or am I banging my head against a brick wall?

And while we are on the subject, do you encourage your boys to 'dab' with loo roll when they've had a pee?

I would say he was rather old to be doing that

get a ping pong ball in the toilet bowl and tell him to aim at it .. make it a game

boys shake

BitTiredNow · 03/01/2008 18:50

You have my sympathy - my nextdoor neighbour has 3 boys and you can constant;y hear her yelling - who has weed on the floor NOW?? - You can get special balls or stickers to put in the bowl to act as a target - I think I saw them in either the presents for men catalogue or the original gift company catalogue. I always get my 4 yo to 'dab', but Dh tells him to shake - not sure if that bit is any good.

Maidamess · 03/01/2008 18:52

I'm not sure if shaking is suffient. We don't shake after all, do we? I can't bear little boys stinky pants.

My ds's miss when they're in a rush or in a giddy mood. I nag them about it every time. They've got a lot better but can still miss.

Thanks Twig,l am aware of that I'm still going to do the dabbing thing tho. Plus ping pong, I've got 3 spares in my table tennis set downstairs!

Tell them to sit down, DP sits down when he goes for a wee because he is quite tall and it's further to aim

glaskham · 03/01/2008 19:03

my 3y + 2 wk old son is fantastic at aiming into the toilet....and he wipes with a kandoo wipe...he loves them and to be honest i dont ever see him stopping!!...i'd hate for him to just shake...i hate that my dh doesn't wipe!! dont let him have his cuddles in bed without a bath to make sure he's extra clean!!haha!!

Maidamess · 03/01/2008 19:03

Just shaking is tres unhygienic, non?

I'm depressed that yours is still doing it at 7 - ds2 is dreadful (just turned six in December). Have tried reasoning, cajoling, screeching, begging him to sit down, threatening...) I bought ping pong balls (still have them in the bathroom cupboard) but couldn't figure out what you did with them when someone wanted a poo - do you fish them out? And what happens if they get weighed down with loo roll and flushed? Could be very expensive...

He is just awful though - it's all over the seat, the wall, the floor. It makes me want to cry sometimes - you have my sympathy.

Maidamess · 03/01/2008 19:11

OOh, I hadn't factored the loo roll and poo problem with the ol' ping pongs. Perhaps I'll have to think again.

Thanks for pointing this out before I had to do some strange explaining to the Dyno rod man.

potty? moi???? because i want my boys to have clean willies??......i dont see why they shouldn't keep them clean!!! i dont want to have stinky undies off either of them!!

LoveMyGirls · 03/01/2008 19:40

Just ask my dp what he thinks, he says its not good for men to wipe, I asked why and he wouldnt give me an answer - I think it's lazyness and filthy!

ThreeBluecubs · 03/01/2008 19:41

So glad to find this post . I can't even watch DS2 wee (I have 3 DS by the way, so this subject is dear to my heart). He starts off OK and then looses concentration and it's like watching a garden hose that someone has just let go of. Walls ... floor ... loo seat ...

We have just bought blue smiley balls from here:

The y don't get weighed down with loo roll and have so far managed to avoid incoming poos (though it's fun trying .

I have trained my 2 ds to do sit down wees at home, but they stand up at school. I can't bear the prospect of stray droplets I'm afraid. Trying to persuade my dh to do this too. It's not like you have a urinal at home is it? It's a huge distance fot it to travel (& splash).

Wallace · 03/01/2008 20:02

Of course the taller boys get the further they have to aim. so a sweet little three year old will pee in the toilet quite nicely, but it gets worse from then on

glaskham · 03/01/2008 20:11

it was more a soft laugh at how sad i actually sounded!! ....no offence was intended i know...and none taken!!....i'd rather be seen as potty than anything else i'd consider myself to come accross as!!

ThreeBluecubs · 04/01/2008 18:27

Don'tCallMeHun - I used to be scornful of people that spent money on training balls too. However, I'd easily pay the £3.50 a month they cost on disinfectant and loo roll mopping up and have come to the conclusion that spending hours a week mopping up wee is a job I can do without!

OP, oddly enough a workfriend and I just talked about this a few days ago, as that was the problem she had with her son.
In the end she told him, that the downstairs toilet was his to use, and only his, but that he was also responsible for keeping it clean.
Well....oddly enough the little boy has now no trouble to use the downstais loo and to keep it clean, and not going for a wee all over the place...
