Toddler hitting and throwing

So just start really. My son is 21 months old and over the last two or three weeks has really become prone to throwing and hitting. He doesn't seem to be doing it in a naughty way, he does it when he is frustrated or wanting attention or upset about something. I am pretty confident that it should just be a phase. Up until a few weeks ago he is just been the most chilled loving little baby and I know that these phases come and go. The reason why I'm making a post is because I just don't know how to deal with it. He does not respond to the word "no", it just doesn't bother him in the slightest no matter what tone I use. If I move the toy away from him he will just pick another one up When he picks the toys up and throws them he instantly looks at the person that's in the room to see their reaction so I know it must be an attention thing.
But I just really need some tips on getting past this phase. I really don't like the heating and it makes me feel worried about when it's around of the children!

I have a boy a bit over 2 years. He is exactly as you described. From one day to another he changed.

I have read today on a group called Big Little Feelings (on FB) how to deal with this (and in the comments you will also find some very helpful advice).

Basically they say "be there, acknowledge the feeling, give them security, do not do time-out/naughty step etc., tell them it's OK". Make them live through the emotion and come out at the other end knowing it's totally OK not to be OK.

For the hitting I tend to take the thing he hits with/throws away but when he starts crying and is upset I go down and give it back to him saying "no hitting" and if he hits again I repeat. So I do not make him upset bu just confiscating things, but I take/give/take/give try to make him understand that he can have his things just not hit/throw them.

I am not very successful with this! But that is my approach. Really recommend that FB group. Also makes you feel you are NOT in this alone :)
