Any ideas on how I can help my very independent 2yr old with brushing his teeth without it becoming a struggle between us?? please??

We also had that problem and compromised by letting ours brush her own in the morning but we do evening before bed, it generally works and also a talk by the dentist saying that we had to help brush was good as well.

Aaahhh the memories of screaming and tantrums.I had this same problem and tbh it was a nightmare. We tried games, singing songs, but the only thing that helped (sometimes) was to sit infront of a mirror so he could see what we were doing.I also took him out to choose his toothbrush, that seemed to help as well.If it is any comfort he is 31 months now and LOVES cleaning his teeth.

Our dentist told us not to worry about techniqque til DS was at least 3 as they just don't get it. He told us to make sure he got a balanced diet with lots of crunchy foods and to take all the usual precautions (keep sweets to a minimum, don't let them constantly suck on a bottle etc etc). We also did (and do) do our teeth with him morning and night and just let him copy. he's just turned 3 and for his bday he got a special toothbrush holder with an egg timer. for the last week he's been going up to the bathroom on his own 2 or 3 times a day 'to do his teeth' its costing me a fortune in toothpaste
