My son is nearly 4, in March, and he still talks mainly gibberish as in his own language. He can talk as he knows colours numbers shapes everything really but he can't hold a conversation only in jibber jabber. Nursery are helping speech therapy is under way and we are seeing improvements but when will this gibberish end and he will speak English? Anyone ride had similar experiences ?

Is English the only language he's exposed to? Just wondering if the delay is because he's Bilingual?

Yes only English

Have you had his hearing and sight checked ?

worriedmummyofboys · 13/02/2022 12:37

Not his eyesight but his hearing yes

How would an eye test work if he's not able to read off the letters from the chart?

They can check their eyesight long before they can read. You just need to find an optician that is used to dealing with children. My DD's speech improved once she had her glasses Smile

Oh ok. Might look into it then thanks. Hubby says he's fine which he prob is but we can't be certain

If he's 4 in March, it might be worth doing this useful progress checker from ICan. It should tell you if he needs additional support abs where to get it if he does Smile

We already have extra help in his nursery and it will be ready for school also and he currently has speech therapy too. Everything is in motion

Sorry that you haven't had anyone come forward with similar experience.

Hopefully this will bump for you.
