Atypical development in 12m old?

First this is not a stealth boast, I'm genuinely worried.

My 12m doesn't say mama or dada (he will say "da" instead). He does however say things like, "look at that!" or, "who/what's that?" Most of his vocabulary revolves around drawing your attention to stuff - look, there, this, hello, bye. He gestures A LOT (I call him my Italian baby). Lots of pointing and demanding to know what stuff is.

But he doesn't reference us. He references the cat! He does point to us to ask us for stuff and hold his arms out/shuffle to us (he's pretty behind physically).

Is this normal?

Not sure about the speech but there's a good 12 month progress checker on ICan.

When you say he's behind physically, is there aiming in particular that he's behind with?

He sounds fine to me. My DD wasn’t even babbling at that point. 20 months old and only has a few basic words, he already says more than her. Pointing and getting your attention are good signs.

What do you mean he’s behind physically?

Ah the iCan thing was reassuring, I could answer yes to everything.

He's behind in his gross motor skills - in the black. He's having physio mostly to help with core strength and transitional movements. Nothing physically wrong apparently, no hypotonia, hypermobility etc.
