Hello, does anyone have any idea how important the flu jab is for a 5 year old and 3 year old? My doctors can't fit them in for their jabs (long story, but basically are not ordering any until Sept) and I can't get to speak to a doctor to ask how important it is. Anyone been in this position? Thanks

I don't know how important they are or not but I'm pretty sure you could get five year old at least done at a chemist / boots . The three year old might be more tricky as my GP was only doing the nasal spray version for three year olds and I don't think they do the injection version for three year olds.

Thanks for that. I'll have a chat with the chemist Smile

I'd say not important... check what is in the vaccine. Also children have amazing immune systems! At a time like this with covid about... I would not give a flu vaccine as it will bring immune system down. Have a little faith in our amazing immune system just like the consultant on sky news who made a brilliant statement to Savij Khan about declining the covid vaccine👌🏼💪🏼 x

@Mama2Nini how could a vaccine bring down the immune system? Vaccines are designed to cause and immune response - otherwise they wouldn't work.

Honestly, if you know that you're suggestive, or not good at critical thinking stay away from twitter!

OP - it's too late for this year. Your 5 year old will have his spray at school next Autumn.
I wouldn't worry about it.

@Mama2Nini from your post it sounds as though you're anti-vaccine. If you don't want get a covid vaccine, fine that's your problem but a flu vaccine - come on! You don't want anyone catching covid and flu at the same time regardless of whether they are a child or not.

My understanding is that the reason they give all kids the flu vaccine to reduce community transmission, which puts elderly people at risk. So more important at a community level than an individual level.

But I could be wrong - one to discuss with your pharmacist.
