Aaaaarrrrrggggh!!!
DS (23mths) is obsessed with sockets and plugs. Having battle royal every day to try and stop him pulling plugs out/putting plugs/fingers in.

Hes also extremely attached to the 'oofer' - so much so hes getting a toy hoover that actually sucks up dust for Christmas - fab prezzie or wot?!

Whats your toddlers obsession just out of curiosity?!

3 year old ds1 has a teddy that goes everywhere with him.

Bozza · 17/11/2004 11:30

DS 3yo - cars, car magazines, Engie Benjy, Lion King (used to have quite a thing for trailers/caravans/harvesters etc)

bonniej · 17/11/2004 11:32

my 17 month old dd loves pulling the child safety plugs out of sockets. It's driving me mad. They're supposed to be child proof and she's only 17 months fgs! I've had to tape them all up with sellotape so she can't get them out, but a pain when you want to use a socket. Can anyone recommend socket covers that are REALLY child proof???

skiingmummy · 17/11/2004 11:38

BonnieJ - nope sorry!!
I have exactly the same prob!

Oh how could I have forgotten:
Cleanliness - she is mad about washing her hands and using her wipes to clean her face, hands and everything around her. Was really cute when she was under 1, picked up napkins in cafe's and started to wipe the table, floor and highchair but a real pain in the bott now as she insists on everything being clean all the time.

Gets it from her father!

bronniemuldoon · 17/11/2004 12:19

Churches!! Quite strange as neither DH or I are religious at all but DS insists on going to look at the "big organ pipes". The other day when presented with the opportunity of going to the zoo hw said "no, go to cathedral"!!!! Think he's going to be the next Pope. Help! We now eat our breakfast to organ recital music....

throckenholt · 17/11/2004 12:25

oh yes - DS1 had a thing about churches last year - it has worn off now. Don't think he has ever been in a church - has been in a graveyard though.

(20-month DD): people are pointed out as those with 'hat on' or those with 'no hat on'. Likewise those with glasses and boots.

Still loves cats, dogs, squirrels, statues of lions, and sticks, pebbles, conkers and pine cones as well as crisp packets and other bits of shiny litter, coins, pens, water, sand, etc. Then there's planes, bikes, tractors, buses and taxis, especially if they make a good diesel engine noise. And she likes turning round and round.

bunjies · 17/11/2004 13:52

2 year dd is obsessed with airflanes (aeroplanes). Anything in the sky is one including birds and clouds. Any rumbly noise she hears is also an airflane.

wilbur · 17/11/2004 14:16

Ds is obsessed with attaching things to other things - he loves "fishing" for stuff and leaving it suspended where I trip over it. Also uses hanger and bag handles to pull various toys around.

Dd is obsessed with copying ds. It's worst at mealtimes where they set each other off blowing raspberries, putting their cutlery in their drinks, eating by simply bending their face forward into their food. It's got to the point where I want to ask her the age old question "If ds jumped off a bridge would you do it too?" If she could speak her answer would be most definitely yes.

Gingerbear · 17/11/2004 14:17

When she was younger, hiding the SKY digibox card (expensive obsession this one was)

Gobbledigook · 17/11/2004 14:38

His new Noddy jigsaw! He's just 2 and loves it at the moment - it's great seeing him get the hang of it!

fostermum · 17/11/2004 17:32

one of my girls at the age of 3 developed an imagenary dog, that went every where with us we had to stop at every lamp post, she wanted to stop car and let it out for wee's, hid bits of her dinner for it and wouldnt sleep in her bed coz dog was in it so she slept on the end it lasted about 6 months, one day it just vanished when i asked where it was i got a look of disgust and was told "run away, of course"

ninja · 17/11/2004 20:32

dd 18 months - Spike (from the ELC) and dancing. Every time she see's a stereo she points, shouts 'Dance' and wiggles her bottom!

lulupop · 17/11/2004 20:47

DS (2.11): collecting sticks, the bigger the better.
DD (6 months): chewing up paper and scrunching rustly wrappers of things.

fisil · 17/11/2004 20:58

bronniemuldoon, I forgot that one. ds is also obsessed by religion right now. He makes dp (aetheist) read him bible stories everyday, and he will often shout out "Jesus" and "Amen" and "Prayers" - at the most bizarre moments!

Rockydog · 17/11/2004 21:52

DD is besotted with her cuddly dog, aptly named Rocky (hence my talkname) which we bought when I was pregnant. It was the only 'personal' thing I would buy (as opposed to vests and nappies as I was a bit superstitious). She is 16 months now. Rocky has to go for regular trips to the 'pooch parlour' as she likes to chew his ears - luckily it's suitable from birth and machine washable! She gets very upset when she can't find him so its always a mad rush to get him washed and dried (although I'm never sure why I bother drying his ears as within 2 seconds they're soaking again!). Its funny because we laughed about the idea of children having a comforter like that when I was pregnant and couldn't imagine it, but it really is the sweetest thing when you see her curled up with him.

She is also obsessed with her shape sorter thingie and follows you around the house with it demanding you play with it!

Rockydog · 17/11/2004 21:55

Oh and dancing and moving to any form of music. She thought the advert for that Boogie Beebies programme was brilliant (shame about the programme, mind!) and would dance about waving her arms! Now she sings and dances to everything which is just gorgeous!

Levanna · 17/11/2004 23:37

DD1's fascinated with worms, she's like a little worm guardian running around the garden and plucking the poor things from where they were quite happy and placing them in places where she thinks they should be happy . I'm just thankful she's not adopted my childhood obsession of slugs, I thought they'd be happiest living indoors. Needless to say, all things wormy are banned from the house!

zippy539 · 18/11/2004 00:00

DS (3)- vehicles of any description and the salad spinner.
DD (16 mths) - the salad spinner...

beccaboo · 18/11/2004 00:25

Big Cook Little Cook. I am Ben and ds is small. We cook, put things in the oven, set the timer, look for the customer, do all the actions, at least four times a day.

MichaelsMum · 18/11/2004 00:34

DS loves TV and video, namely: Bob the Builder, Noddy, Tractor Tom, Little Red Tractor, Tellytubbies (especially Big Hugs which he orders in a loud voice and we both comply of course!) Postman Pat and Tweenies. He also likes TTTE but doesn't seem to ask for it so much - however on the way to nursery today, having exhausted the theme tunes to all the above (I know all the words now!) he kept insisting on 'Tho'os' which I knew was TTTE but as there isn't a song I wasn't sure that's what he wanted. Finally I tried to trot out the tune 'Do do do do do do doooo etc.' and he loved it 'Again, again!' Why is it so much harder to remember a tune than a song?

Also loves hats (one truck book he has seems to be only interesting for pointing out the drivers with hats on and those without). We took him to the circus last week which bored him after the third act or so but he made his own entertainment chucking his woolly hat away and then making a big drama of 'Where hat? Hat whereareyou?' This lasted ages, as every time the hat came back it got chucked further away. Luckily the place wasn't that full!

AussieSim · 18/11/2004 02:11
