4 month old struggles

Hi,

I have a 4 month old baby who has never been a great sleeper, but fortunately is such a happy easy going baby, who has feed well and not suffered with colic issues.

Recently over the last two weeks , it's saddens me to say he has been not his normal little self. He has been dribbling excessive amounts , is very grumpy, doesn't seem to want to feed an awful lot, sleeping much less than usual and spilling much more than he ever has.

He hasn't given me any major concerning signs , no fevers , lots of full wet nappies and gaining in weight.

Has anyone has similar experiences. My oldest son was never like this so I'm a bit lost to what's going on.

We're just giving this thread a bump for the OP in case anyone's around to give some advice and support.

Sounds like early teething to me, some seem to go for months before actually popping out a tooth but have all the symptoms you mentioned on the way.

@JoMumsnet thank you so much and @Mattieandmummy wow really , my oldest son was a late teether, so never thought these signs could appearso early! And again he was a Great little teether, handled it very well with no signs. I am very aware however they can get very unsettled.

It's horrible to think he is in pain this bad to be so grumpy, he has always been known for his huge smiles and being so relaxed. We miss his smile so much . Hopefully this doesn't last to long.

My daughter has just turned 4 months and we're seeing the same sort of thing. I think there's just so much going on for them at this age, it's really tough for them and us too.

I experienced the same thing at the 4 month mark with my DD, her first tooth actually erupted one week after turning 4 months. This and the sleep changes and developmental progression they go through made poor little one very frustrated and grumpy (and breastfeeding hard for me as had to keep changing her positions which seemed to help her discomfort). We used calpol and teething powders to try and help but not sure it made too much difference really!

Now she's just turned 5 months and seemed to be over the worst (for now!!) but still wanting to bite everything which now hurts a lot with 2 sharp teeth 😬

I hope your little one perks up soon, it's so hard to see them not themselves. Sorry I don't have an answer rather just some empathy! 😘

@Anonymum30 so hard ! I like to take my wins and although he's not a great sleeper , he's such a happy easy going baby and to see him so upset makes me feel for him.

@rsp123 thank you , i have noticed how much he loves chomping on my finger. It seems to get a smile out of him , so I am starting to think it is a tooth coming, also the amount of saliva would make me assume teething also. And no way , you have definitely helped. Although it's horrible to say , sometimes it's just nice knowing other mums are experiencing this to and it's nothing to worry about. I tend to go off how my oldest was as a baby , and we never experienced this with him, so it was causing alarm bells. I feel much more relaxed with everyone's help. ☺️
