Squint

Hi,

Has anyone got any experience with squints? My DS has been diagnosed, but the ophthalmologist said its only slight so he likely won't treat it and he will probably just compensate with a head tilt?! I'm just confused because I thought the whole point of treating it was to stop things like head tilts? Can't it cause facial disfigurement? and I thought if its not treated it can lead to vision loss and lazy eye? So confused!Hmm xx

How old is your DS? Compensate with a head tilt is a strange thing to say. DD2 and DS2 both have squints (picked up at age 3 and 2 respecitively). Both needed glasses to to correct their vision but the squints are still there when they don't wear them.

He is very young- 11 weeks! He originally went because of trauma to his eyes from forceps and nystagmus (which cleared up when the haemorrhage went) I am not saying I want it treating right now but I definitely don't want him having a head tilt when he is older! I thought it was an odd thing to say aswell Confused he has said it twice now when I made it clear I didn't want him to end up with a head tilt, so I think I am going to request to be put under someone else x

@AugustRose does it run in your family at all? My DS apparently has the rarest form( one eye is higher than the other) it doesnt run in my family either so they think it could be trauma related Sad

It does seem to as I have poor sight in one eye, although I didn't develop a squint/lazy eye so it was evident until I had an eye test at age 5.

I think 11 weeks is too young to diagnose a squint as babies can often look as if they aren't focusing while the muscles develop. But, if you don't feel comfortable with who you are currently seeing then, yes, ask to see someone else. I'm a little confused by the head tilt comment as the other eye compensates so I didn't have a head tilt and neither did my DCs. Their squints are quite typical, into the corner of the eye.
