hi mamas, I wondered if someone could maybe put my mind at rest ... my girl was 4 months on the 16th. ever since she learned how to babble, she has always been a big 'talker' and loved telling me her stories, but in the last couple of weeks she seems to have been really quiet. she does still babble don't get me wrong it's not as if she has stopped completely but it's few and far between and sometimes I really have to work for it. she is still smiling and laughing.
I've noticed she's trying to roll over, she can get onto her side but is struggling to just get that little bit further and she also seems to be trying to sit up, she's pushing herself and can lift her head and shoulders but no further. she is brilliant with tummy time now after she hated it to start with but she can lift her head right up.
has anyone gone through anything similar? is it normal for them to have quiet periods? or could this be something more serious? X

Sounds normal.

When DS hit about four months he was babbling less but he spent a lot of time blowing raspberries and emitting ear piercing shrieks instead.

My son did this, I think it's referred to as cooing at this age? Mostly vowel sounds? At 8 weeks the health visitor actually called him her 'best talker' then at 4 months he learned to roll and would just grunt. This pretty much continued until he learned to crawl at 6 months. Then when he had mastered that the babbling began 'ba, ma, da etc...'

My ds was just so fixated on moving he just grunted with the effort I think. I wouldn't worry your dd is probably on verge of lots of movement which is occupying her mind at the moment.

thank you for both replies Smile
really funny because I wrote this and literally the same day she rolled from belly to back which was really unexpected as she had been practicing back to front (which she's not mastered yet haha!) she did it a few times but then hasn't done it since but the babbling is back - with new sounds! so I think she was probably going through a bit of a developmental phase which was the reason for the quietness... phew Blushx
