Is there life after grobags?

DS (20mo) has started getting out of his sleeping bag. It's the kind that has poppers over the shoulders. He has always worn one, even for naps, and when he gets out of it he doesn't go to sleep.

So..

Is there anything I can do to alter it so he can't get out of it?

How do you go about using blankets? He just jumps around the cot so would easily kick them off.

Ta!

Could you get one with a zip that finishes at the bottom of the bag?

Shannaratinsel · 19/12/2007 08:20

We have one with no shoulder poppers just one zip in the middle. Mothercare own i think.

The one we have from Bump to 3 doesn't have poppers and has a zip that does up to the bottom with a little thing that covers the tag to stop them spotting it (in theory!) It also hs a velcro hole in the back so you can use it with a harness i.e in a car seat. We find it invaluable for travelling. Might be worth a look at their site?

Hi, we too were worried about changing over from grobags to a duvet but it has gone really well.....we tuck our 20 month old in and he plays with his teddies and has a kick around for a bit. I then go in after half an hour or so when he is asleep and just put the duvet back over him....I also make sure he wears socks in bed and nice fleecy pj's just in case he should kick off the covers overnight....I've also got some safety clips on the bottom to make sure he can't pull the covers over his head....

Also, I found it really nice to get a cover with his fav character to make him warm to the duvet and we had a talk about what a big boy he was to have a cover like mommy and daddy........

I think it's only the cheaper versions that have poppers on the shoulder. All the proper Gro-bags (at least the ones I have) have a zip down the middle that closes at the bottom and are impossible to get out of.

And strawberry, why are you ending your post with a "Ta" - if you hate that word so much when toddlers use it, why use it yourself as a grown woman?

ExDhsNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 19/12/2007 10:46

A friend of mine puts her toddler in the sleeping bag back to front so he can't undo it. Worth a try?

My 2.5 year old hasn't managed to escape from his Grobag ones yet - although he was fiddling with the little poppered cover last night so it could be any time now that I have to start on this back to front strategy!

shelinka · 19/12/2007 11:15

Some of the gro-bag ones have only poppers, some have a zip in the centre, some have a zip at the side + poppers... guess it depends on the style and size.

They do a couple of ranges in sizes 3-6yrs and 6-10yrs so you are ok for a few years yet!

deenymcqueenygoreandguts · 19/12/2007 11:18

we went into those all in one fleecy suits, bob the builder/tiger etc. Woolies do them for about a tenner i think.you know the ones with the rubber bits underfoot.
they are fab and dont come off at night.

Callisto · 19/12/2007 11:53

Like Deeny, my DD went from grobag to all-in-one fleecy sleeper suit, maily bacause we have a freezing house and DD kicks any blankets/duvets off. Tesco and Adams have the all-in-ones for about £10 too.

nooonit · 19/12/2007 16:23

Think I read somewhere that Grobag now make some kind of duvet fastened to bottom sheet type thing as a follow on after Grobags. Might be worth looking at - though not sure if suitable for 20 months and think they were fairly expensive.
My DD (now 3.5) managed in the Grobags with zip down the front till earlier this year so might be worth a try too!

ExDhsNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 19/12/2007 16:49

I just saw the Grobag bedding sets too - they say from 2.5 although not sure why that would be but they look really good. Anyone tried them?
