Concerned about babies head

My baby is 9 weeks old and when lying flat on her back always puts her head to the left. She doesn't turn it to look straight at me when I'm changing her etc and rarely will move her head to face the other side. Any advice?

How was the birth @newmama721? Was there any interventions?

No, natural, no meds

I don't think it's necessarily anything to be worried about but I'm not a HCP so not really sure either way.

I know that cranial osteopaths usually get a good review on MN so maybe worth looking into?

Hi,

My son was born with torticollis which is tightening of the neck muscles. As he kept his head to one side in my tummy he was unable to turn it to the other side when born. We had to get physio and do stretches to correct it. If your little one has just started doing that then i am sure its nothing but if it is since birth then might be something to do with the neck muscles. X

Holding head in midline for periods is a 3-4 month milestone. Before then they turn their head to one side. Many babies have a preference for one side - can be due to torticollis or maybe just a bit of stiffness. Both my boys did but grew out of it by 6 months.

My daughter did this but to the right! She ended up getting a flat head at one side, I was riddled with anxiety over it. We saw someone at the hospital during a routine appointment and I asked them about it while I was there. They said she was just a little bit stiff at that side and not to push her head over to there. But instead, they told me to turn her whole body onto the side she didn't lie on and then gently hold her head in place whilst I turned her body back into the middle. After a few times doing that over a week or so she got much better and began to turn her head freely herself. The flat head resolved itself thankfully. She's almost 3 now.
