potty training - interfering mother

Mum reckons that because ds chooses to go off somewhere quietly to have a poo and can say the word poo that he is ready for potty training. He is 19 months and I planned to wait until warmer weather to give it a go. I'd also read that they understand quicker if you wait til after they are 2. Opinions please...

If you don't think he's ready, then I wouldn't bother trying yet. Potty train when you think he's ready.

Having said that, some children are ready at this age - my dd2 was - and we've had no significant problems. We knew she was ready because she was pointing to her bottom saying 'pee pee', her nappy was still dry, and when we put her on the potty, she wee'ed. So fairly obvious signs.

And also urine control and poo control happen at different times - he may have awareness of when he's pooing, but does he have awareness of when he does a wee?

He doesn't seem to have a clue about peeing. The look of surprise on his face when he goes in the bath is a picture. Just seems a lot of hassle to ahve wet clothes etc in cold weather. I planned to do it in summer and let him wander without clothes as often as poss

In that case, wait until the summer
