Asking out of curiosity. My just turned 16 mnth old goes a childminder with a couple of two year olds so I don’t meet any babies her age to compare. What words did yours say at this age?

Mine says the following. She has not started putting two words together in phrases yet.

Mummy, Daddy, Baba (grandpa), Nanny, No, Hi, Up, ‘Uh oh dear’, Baby, Ball, Poo, Nose, Eye, Tickle, Popper, Moon, Bowl, Hat, Bird, Na (snack), Cockerel, Owl, Nana (banana), Tea, More, Hot, Boo, Tick tick (clock), Knee, Nuh (nothing), Row row (round), plus a load of animal sounds moo, quack, grrr etc

I’m interested in the types of words they are learning eg noun / verb etc. I imagine mostly nouns at this stage. Thanks all.

If you have a look at ICan's Ages & Stages for 12 to 18 months, it should tell you what's normal and when to seek support Thanks

Thank you! Yes tbh I’ve seen this and other another similar guideline and they are helpful, but I was more interested in the actual words that were being learnt rather than the quantity. I used to be a tefl teacher so I geek out on this stuff.

I think they're all different to be honest. On another note ...my 22 year old is a bit slow in the language department and says: mommy dada, ca (cat), meow meow ( cat), we (wet), ater (water), anana (banana), ja ( German yes), Nein (no), wow and some other stuff and some unclear things that I haven't figured out yet.
Maybe the bilingual thing makes things a bit tricky

I understand that language aquisition takes longer if you're doing two at once Felinewoman so don't worry.

My monoglot DSs had about 20 words at 18 months and have not looked back. They are now 14 and nearly 12 ...

DD was an early talker, and I'm also fairly geeky about child development. Her earliest words were fairly similar to your list, although fewer body parts and more different foods, I think. She also said 'yes' before 'no'. 'Done', 'again', and 'more' were early not-nouns, and she was quite adept at using them for a range of different things – particularly useful was that she'd use 'done' to indicate she didn't like an activity/situation, which saved a lot of upset.

She started putting two words together around 15 months, initially mostly paired with 'more' or 'open' ('open gate' and 'open door' mostly; more had a broader range). Early verbs were either imperatives ('open', and I think 'sit' and 'put' were fairly early as well) or present participles ('bouncing' and 'dancing' are the first two I remember).
