I've just realized how bad dd's LITHP is.

At the nativity play, dd (6) really, really did lisp a lot.

What's the score with the lithping then? Do we leave and ignore (my usual parenting strategy) or should I do something about this?

Her teacher did mention before that she doesn't always make or hear the right sounds - like fairly standard 'th' and 'f' for instance, and sometimes had trouble with rhyming words, but I sort of ignored that too. [head in the sand]

Thoughts appreciated.

DD2 had a lisp when she was little. We had lots of fun with tongue twisters (no pressure) and eventually she grew out of it.

Thanks for all the replies.

Cali - what IS the correct tongue position? I am trying it now, and it just seems to sit behind the teeth not doing much. Is that right? OMG perhaps I lisp too and have never noticed.

It isn't just lisping, she's generally a bit slurry and indistinct.

How many people are sitting here going s-s-s-th-th-th trying to work out the difference in tongue position?? It seemstobe very subtle... very tip of the tongue stays down I think... th it kind of touches the top teeth... or maybe not.

I have to add my fave R/W moment with DS2 here: "W is for Wino".

Glam, I too have a small mouth. Had lots of teeth (milk and adult) taken out to straighten them, but the more I think about it, the more I feel that it's the shape of my mouth (a small U rather than a wide U) that might be a prob.
Also have had the cute comment, or strangers saying my lisp is sexy

POOKA, I'm with you on the shape of the mouth thing. Mind you, the small mouth has it's advantages, so I'm told

DP thinks its funny to trick me into saying words with lots of s's which annoys me immensely. He thinks it's sexy though . After years after having the mickey taken out of me at school (my RL name has a few s's in it, to make it worse) I can't equate my lisp with being sexy.

Still, it makes us different to the rest, i guess!

How funny, my first name and surname begin with S and had an S in the middle too. Crap luck if you ask me!
