Hello mummies, my son will be 20 months next week im really concerned about his excessive saliva he has been a big drooler since 3 months and started getting better around 15 months but then just got worse around 18 months, he did have the flu for a while so i thought maybe thats why its emerged again but it just hasnt stopped im starting to think he might have low oral muscle tone are there any other symptoms i need to look for? His speech has progresses in the past month he has alot of words and can communicate all his needs but mostly the words are pronounced incorrectly for instance he will use gag for bag, and ditty for kitty i dont know if this has anything to do with the saliva issue, any info is much appreaciated🙏🏻

Molar teething would be my guess. DS was obscenely drooly for a good 3 or 4 months before the bottom one finally emerged. I think some babies are just more dribbl-y than others tbh. If his speech and eating are okay I probably wouldn’t be worried.

Mispronouncing words is completely normal at that age.

Thankyou for your reply, im worried because it hasnt been much of an on and off thing its been going on since around 4 months, it did get less at 17-18 months but then started getting worse again. For the eating part i dont think we have big issues but he is sensitive with certain textures for instance he wont eat ice cream or any other cold foods

Oh OP I could have written this six months ago! DD was such a spotty drooly baby and then improved so I got rid of all her bibs. What a mistake! The dribble came back with such a. Vengeance - I had to go and buy loads of dribble bibs - I even ended up using her special Xmas ones that I was keeping as a memento at one stage!
Her molars were coming through. She was a fiend for dribbling when teething (she also suffered terribly from the teething)

How old is she now?

She will be two next month. I was so worried her mouth was misaligned because she has a dummy at bedtime (even though it is orthodontically approved) and that it didn't close properly and that was why she dribbled. I quizzed nursery on whether children her age should still be dribbling and they did assure me it was pretty normal when teething. We have the final set of molars (top and bottom) still to come do I imagine more dribbling then

Yes i do think its normal while teething but mine is just dribbling all the time so i dont think its the teething ,i have asked his pediatrician but he said its normal up to 24 months but im still concerned because it just keeps getting worse i think i will have his throat nose and adenoid checked
