Hi everyone,

quick Q

my ds at 10 months is sucking his thumb soooooo badly that he has three blisters on it- this seems to be related to him teething. Anyone else had this??
He doesn't seem bothered by it at all but it looks quite nasty.
Can I put sudocrem on it- but what if he sucks it...??
Or maybe I though about kamillosan??

Any ideas???

thanks

Leah

dd also gnawed into her thumb and by a year had caused a serious blister which became infected Had to keep it clean and dry, covered with plaster secured tightly with tape. iirc I was advised to avoid creams. After a few days it did improve but not before I had a scare that she'd swallowed the plaster (later found it in her car seat !).

Washing with very diluted kamillosan is good for keeping out infectiona and drying it up a bit so you can do that. My DS's thumb always looks like a war zone and is now the only area where his eczema is in evidence. I treat it with cortisone, but can't keep it dry long enough to fix it totally. The way it is I couldn't put a plaster on it without getting the sticky bit on the sore bit so I just soldier on especially as it doesn't seem to worry him at all - just strangers who ask what the hell is wrong with him thumb and can't I stop him from sucking it (Answer: only if I never want to sleep again). I try to distract him from sucking it during the day by giving him somthing to hold onto or something to eat in typical situations in which he would suck it - like in his car seat, but that is about it.

Good Luck.

Hi and thanks ladies

I am trying to stop him sucking in the daytime and will start popping a bit of kamillosan dilued on it at bedtime (when he's asleep) to see if that helps.

Not sure there is much else that i can do other than that
