Newborn wind

Hi All

Recently had my first little girl who is now 5 days old, she’s ff and seems to be suffering from terrible wind. I started using infacol two days ago and she is generally a content baby but really screws up her legs and face and cries in discomfort when laying down etc and also after a feed. I spend ages trying to burp her after and try to keep her upright for a little while so she doesn’t lay straight down but it doesn’t seem to help. Should I change to a different formula or is this common at this age? It’s making me feel terrible and helpless for her, any advice would be amazing thank you!

Does she still cry if you don't lie her down? Just wondering if it's being put down that's the problem rather than wind?

She does let out little cries if she's up on my shoulder etc and her whole body almost tenses up as though she's in pain, although she does settle better when upright and on me

It's normal for them to have some discomfort from wind. They are still getting used to their digestive system working. Have a look at the Tiger in the Tree hold on YouTube. It's great fir getting wind up.

As for her settling better in you, that's perfectly normal as well. Have a Google of the Fourth Trimester.

That's not saying that you can't try things to help though.

Try using a T-shirt DH has worn as the sheet in her cot.

Swaddling and white mouse should help as well.

I found the book Babycalming incredibly helpful as well.

Congratulations on your new DD Thanks

Sorry white noise not a white mouse, although having one of those on the room might distract her from crying Grin
