5 year old very inattentive

My 5 yr old son has been in tears tonight at bedtime. He told me he's finding yr 1 really tricky, and can't keep up with the other kids. Especially in writing. He was very upset.

We know he struggles with attention. We ask him to do a simple task like getting dressed or putting his shoes on and he gets distracted or just doesn't do it. I know he is like this with writing too from homeschooling him. He is bright, his verbal communication is very good, he can tell you what he should write and the letters he needs to write, but when it comes to putting pen to paper it's like there is a disconnect between brain and hand. He just doesn't do it and has to be cajoled. I think this is what is happening at school and that's why he feels like he is behind.

He's my oldest child and I don't know if this is within normal limits for a child his age or if I should be worried about ADHD or something? He is one of the youngest in his year, and his nursery and reception years were both disrupted due to Covid so that could be a factor, but it was awful to see him so upset this evening. I don't want my 5 year old to be feeling stress and pressure at school. I plan to speak to his teacher in the morning but I was wondering if anyone had any advice? Thanks.

My 6 year old in year 1 is very similar, so bright but his attention span and organisation can be pretty awful at times!!

I've wondered if he has dyspraxia for a while as he is also a tip toe Walker...and school have suggested the same and will have him assessed for any additional support. Speak to the senco lead at his school for more help.
