I need help with my 5 year old

I don't even know where to start.

He was excluded on Monday for scratching a teacher and drawing blood in a fit of rage after another child played with something that was his and then wouldn't give it him back. The teacher stepped in to intervene.

He is currently in Year 1, and this anger and aggression has always been present ( But not so much at home - infact very rarely at home, tantrums yes, hitting out, no. )

Reception wasn't so bad, I was called a lot mainly over trivial things and just put it down to adjusting.

Year 1 has only been for what 3 / 4weeks and he's already been excluded.

He was allowed back Tuesday and I've been called in today as he's hit out again at lunch time supervisor.

He has a real issue with authority and doesn't seem to really take any notice of anyone who isn't me.

He is currently having play therapy and i've spoken to the GP who has contacted the school. They are happy to support that he needs an assessment.

I don't know what to do in the mean time though? I've taken away all treats, ipad, football lessons, even a story book at night.

He seems to understand at the time when I'm explaining why he can't act that way but then it's like a red mist comes over him and he can't function properly in that zone.

He's very apologetic after so he does know he's in the wrong.

I'm at my wits end.

I just don't know how to make him enjoy school and stop acting like this.

Hello, I could have written a very similar post to you back in 2017 when my son was 4. Can you make an appointment at the school with the teacher and special needs coordinator? They will have strategies in place to support him. Feel free to inbox me on here as I've been there so know exactly what you are describing!
Fwiw, my son is now 8 and has settled down a lot.

I have spoken to both the teacher / headteacher and the senco lead. They do try things such as they said he would benefit from a 1:1, they put this in place for a couple of days and then they disappear, I've questioned this and its due to budget apparently. Someone I know reccomended getting a EHCP as then the school are funded and it can help with costs like a 1:1 do you have any experience in this?

Glad to hear your son has calmed down a lot, I really hope I can be where you are in a few years! Do you think its anything in particular that's helped or just the fact he's maturing?

Thanks for replying.
