Early Autism signs - 4 months!

Hello!

My little one is not really giggling yet. She's let out of few "eh eh" but it's rare. She's 4.5 months but was born two weeks early for 4 months corrected.

She's a super happy content baby. Doesn't really cry. Only whinges for a need being either tired or hungry and even then she's quiet. It's just a little grizzle. Unless left very late and it's a cry.

She has good eye contact. Smiles when we approach her in bassinet or in okay. Looks like she silent laughs? She bring hands and toys to mouth. When on tummy time and reach out and pulls things in. She's mostly mute when she plays but in last few weeks can have conversations that last a few minutes with sounds like "arggg" "ohhh" and "grrrul"

She follows objects and people with her eyes. She always looks around at everything in her environment.

I keep getting told that happy content babies is a sign of autism and the fact she is also yet to giggle! I can't stop obsessing over it.

Please help ease my anxiety!

Please help ease my anxiety

I think you just need to stop googling abs enjoy your baby. Even if she has ASD, nobody is going to assess her at 4 months.

Seriously, please just enjoy her fir who she is.

Stop obsessing over it, your baby seems perfectly fine. My baby was happy and content too. No idea why that would be a sign of autism 🙄

Things you've mentioned and against autism:
Good eye contact
Talks back (and it means she's not mute at all)
Reaches for toys
Spontaneous smile when she sees you

These are complete opposites of early red flags! There's nothing to worry about!!:)

My son was very very similar to how you describe at that age. Except he also went through a phase of poor eye contact.

He is now 2.5 and does not have autism. He is a little quirky, but nobody notices that except me! He passed his 2 year check. He’s active, funny, loving, super smart, into everything and his vocabulary is phenomenal.

From about 6 months old it was clear to me that his social and communication skills were ahead of where they needed to be. And therefore I knew autism was unlikely.

What helped me to keep my anxiety and googling about it under control was to accept that what would be would be and that I couldn’t help him without knowing what/if there was a problem yet. So I found it helped me to do the Ages and Stages questionnaires that the Health Visitors use to assess development. (You can find them online.) If your little one passes for their age, put it away for a couple of months and enjoy your baby. If you still have concerns in a couple of months, do the next one. Don’t waste the time in between worrying. You’ll regret it.

My son has autism and at 3 weeks he was smiling and laughing at 3 months, in fact he was a highly engaged social baby then regressed. I would enjoy your baby and stop worrying. If he gets to 12 months and you still have concerns speak to your HV.

You've been misinformed. Happy contentedness is not a sign of baby autism.

Now stop being ridiculous and enjoy your lovely baby.

My autistic child was the opposite of a happy contented baby. If you've got a happy baby, you should enjoy her!
