15 month old - behind on talking and self feeding!

My DS is 15 months old, the only word he says is mum.

He understands lots of things we say, he doesn't stop babbling all day, and he seems to say his own words that don't sound like words but I know they have a meaning. Like he will go 'UH' when holding out something to give it to me, and he says it exactly the same every time. But he just won't repeat words, I try to describe everything with 1 word 'milk, dad, ball etc.'

Then for eating - great eater, but wont feed himself!! When weaning from 6 months he started with finger foods putting them in his mouth, but then by 7 months he stopped putting anything in his mouth, and never started back up again!

He is completely happy being spoon fed and has no desire to spoon feed himself or finger feed. He just throws the food on the floor and would starve if I didn't feed him. He doesn't hold his bottle/cups with milk/water either. He knows how to as I've spotted him picking them up and taking a drink before, but he just wants me to sit and hold them instead.

Do I need to worry / contact my GP? I don't have a HV to contact (cheers covid) so I haven't had any advice from professionals but the NHS website is all 'should be saying 3+ words by now and eating themselves etc.'

Do you definitely not have a HV? It might be worth running the GP's receptionist and asking how you get in touch with them. There may be a standi-in or a HV Hub you could call. Ideally, you need a HV to assess him.

If that's not possible, yes speak to the GP and ask for a hearing test first.

Hi ☺️
any update on your little one’s feeding ? Has he improved? Many thanks for your answer ☺️

@Vittoria123 He's now a 4 year old who is currently sat at the dining table eating his breakfast!

Zero issues at all self feeding now! He still loved to be spoon fed up until he was about 2.5 - 3 years old - it wasn't that he couldn't do it, he just couldn't be bothered to do it 😂
