Early teething - advice please

Hope I've posted this on the right thread? My DS is 9 weeks old and he's been a bit unsettled this week, I took him to our local baby clinic and the health visitor said that he might have started teething! Isn't it a bit early to start teething? Any tips on how I can soothe him? The health visitor suggested a cold teething ring for him to chew on but he's still too uncoordinated to get one to his mouth..

i think the teeth can start moving about in their gums and causing discomfort a long time before they come through. DD has been having teething symptoms for about 3 months now and still no sign of them.

these were the best early teething rings I found. They're really light and easy to hold. Also, because the're not water filled you can steam or cold sterilise them which you might want to do while your DS is so little. I helped DD hold them for a week or so but they learn pretty quickly when they're motivated by pain .

also, i've found anbesol easier to use than bonjela. Obviously also calpol when it's really bad.

Are you sure it is teething though or was the HV just grasping for a random straw? Has anything else changed lately?

my ds teethed from 6 weeks my nephew got his first tooth aat 6 weeks

it's not to early you can get dentinox teething gel from birth onwards as babies can be born with teeth we know its not to early

freezing corner of flannel is great as you can press this on gums

may be getting a cold but then that can also be signs of teething either way if you trey some dentinox and he appears calmer then you have your answer

i've also been advised that teeth come down a bit then go back up then down a bit more and so on till they finally come through.

HV may be clutching at a straw, although obviously it's not too early as another poster has said. there are lots of colds around at the moment as well.

the cold flannel worked well for ds, who refused any teething rings!

Thanks for the replies, I don't think it's a cold but I guess will find out over the next couple of days - in the meantime I'll try the cold flannel/early teething rings and see how we get on
