HELP! My LO had his first immunization at 8 weeks today and is really distressed.

He has been crying since 6pm and wont even go to the breast. If ever he is upset usually, i can just put him to the breast and he will calm down. He is crying even when i put him to me, and he has never donw that before.

I dont know how we can console him and feel awful!

Now i dont want to take him for his follow up jabs in 4 weeks time too.

Any advice would be really apriciated... i need to calm him down.

Good to hear he's feeding well now.

Hello Lula,

Just read your post and although its a bit belated wanted to say my DS had a very similar reaction to his first jabs, its still the worst nite we have had (I really was panicking as he was utterly inconsolable for hours. However he settled after a dose of calpol and was virtually back to normal the next day. He has been absolutely fine on subsequent jabs. I mentioned it to the Gp when there for another reason and she said this type of reaction is really quite common and the inconsolable crying can indeed go on for 6 hours or so. She said if it goes on for longer and /or you notice any other untoward symptoms then contact Gp.

Tovik your post was patently not helpful, think how you would feel if needing reassurance.

I would not hesitate to have my baby immunised against any potentially serious illness, i have cared for people who have been seriously damaged by things like measles etc and it is so sad to think that if a vaccine had been available to them they would probably be living normal healthy lives....but hey thats another thread.

My ds had a grotty week after his 1st lot of jabs - although he was feeding a lot, rather than not at all
he was really unsettled, and some calpol sorted him
he seemed a tad feverish, and ratty as hell, and after 5 days or so it tailed off
glad he's feeling better already - it's horrible to see it
if i remember rightly, the 2nd and 3rd lots were a lot easier
