11 year old attacked me tonight.

Hi, my 11 year old is such a good boy but he's always had an issue with attention ( needed help in school with nurture classes because he couldn't focus ). Recently he has had extreme anger over simple things. Tonight he was angry over me taking his Xbox cable because of cheek and getting angry. Once I took it I gave him about 20 minutes of chances before leaving his room. He told me he wasn't asking me to give it back, he was telling me. So I left the room before I got angry. He followed me to the hall and threw himself at me and punched me repeated in the stomach. Not little punches, completely winded me. He has never done this before but has threatened it before. I've never laid a hand on him so no idea where he got this from. But now I'm lost what to do. I've tried all punishments before with other behaviour and nothing works. I don't believe in hitting so won't resort to that. But worried next time he's that angry it isn't me but instead his 3 younger siblings. Sorry this is a long one. I'm just worried this happens again.

So sorry...have you had him assessed for ADHD?

I would ask the school about resources for therapy/ anger management.
Also the next time he lays a hand on you, call the police. He needs consequences to his actions. You are not his punch bag and assaulting you will not be tolerated.
I would advise him that next time he physically hurts you the police will be called.
Also I would be pulling everything out of his bedroom bar his bed and his clothes. No screen, phone, laptop or gaming equipment. If he is bored he can read a book.
From my time volunteering in schools, the most violent and aggressive boys were those who played online games via xbox/ playstation.

Hi, thank you for your reply. He only gets a hour every second day on Xbox but now he has no access to Xbox, phone or any technology. I really appreciate your reply. I thought about contacting his school but when he was getting dressed for school the next day he asked for his phone for school.. I said no and he said he'd tell the school he hadn't done anything and that I had hurt him. Which is fine with me, I hadn't done anything wrong. But if it did go further I was worried about my other children ( though they'd mention without question there is no violence in this house ). His dad also came to take him to the football pitch for a hour and instead took him to a game store and got 3 new Xbox games for him. He was meant to take him for some time apart for us and instead made it worse coming home.

I would still inform the school, don’t let him threaten you. Again he needs to understand this is unacceptable behaviour. The school might be able to offer further support to both of you.
Even if your child did lie, social services are there to support families. The last thing they want is to split them up. ( work with as in my role).
Obviously his dad is not on the same page and is assume you are no longer together. The 3 games can sit gathering dust, what a shame.

I can only assume that you're not together as well.

We aren't together, have been separated for about 7 years.
