Is she in pain? Help!

Hello, I'm a new mum with a 6 week old daughter who I am breastfeeding. The problem I have is with night feeding.

She will wake up, I will feed her until she won't take anymore and then wind her and put her back in her cot, she then takes AGES to go back to sleep and more importantly writhes and grunts and squeaks. She has her eyes closed, but writhes and writhes and looks like she might be in pain? She doesn't cry, but does make all this noise (and it is really loud!) for up to 40 mins. I have tried taking her out and winding her more, but there doesn't seem to be any wind there.

I'm really confused and am worried she is in pain . .any ideas??!

This ONLY happens at night - in the day she either stays awake after a feed or goes straight to sleep.

Also - as I am here, quick other question - she is often very blue around her mouth and under hr nose after a feed - is this just wind?

Thanks!

have you tried infacol?

Piffle · 04/12/2007 11:02

this is wind
we found that ds2 would not burp but would wriggle squeak and fart for ages, not disturbing him but keeping us awake!
So we used infacol and it helped dbl speed but he grew out of it very quikc within 10 weeks and has never needed burping

the blue is usually a sign of oxygen deprivation
BUT if it pinks up again very fast you're fine
It may be that she takes different breaths when feeding, make sure her nose is always clear

usuallu = sometimes

My ds was vv noisy at night after feeding too at that age (wriggling, squeaking, farting, the lot) so much so that I had to sleep with him in the living room some nights to allow my dh to get a night's sleep (poor love). He grew out of it though (my ds that is - dh still farting etc ).

He didn't have the blueness that you speak of (not that I noticed ), sorry can't help there.

my dd2 also gets blue under the nose, she is 8 weeks. My mum said it meant she needed winding and she always belches better when she is blue iyswim. When she has it she is the same, whiny, grunty, crying.
I give her infacol in the evening and it helps her wind come up and stops it being too bad

Ds used to go blue when windy too and we used Innfacol helped for a few wks but think he was ok by 3 mths.

Thanks so much everyone. Have gone down the Infacol road and she has snorted a bit less and done some more big burps! I'm happier now I'm assured she's not in any pain and she has slept between five and six hours in a row for the last three nights - hope it's not a fluke! I have put one earplug in so I can drop off but still hear enough if she actually cries . .seems to work a treat - I feel nearly human!
