7 month development / stimming?

Hi I wondered if anyone could help me. I have a 7 month old son and am a bit concerned with the way he reacts in some situations

He’s starts screaming in the car now and when he does, his hands/wrists and feet twist.

He seems to do this quite a lot when he seems agitated. He’s not a ‘content’ baby and never has been really, he is constantly grunting during the day, and recently it’s every time I lie him down to get him dressed or change his nappy, and it seems when he’s over stimulated.

I’ve read various things about possible autism and keep an eye on it but also other posts saying it’s normal for 7 month olds to do this.

As a bit of background
He can:
Roll both ways, sit unassisted, go from lying to sitting, crawl (albeit a bit wonky), attempts to pull himself up, seems to copy some actions e.g touching things and banging toys, sometimes responds to his name

He cant:
Or doesn’t seem to babble, copy facial expressions or sounds,

He smiles and laughs if you’re on purposely trying, if he hasn’t seen one of us for a while, but other than that he’s pretty straight faced.

I feel he zones out sometimes too like day dreams.

I feel like I’ve read one thing and now I keep looking for signs and can’t get it out of my head, but anyone seen the same with their baby and it’s just normal development or does it sound like something we may need to mention to the HV?

Thank you for reading!

@FFTM1995 how is ur baby now

Hey! So my son is 2yr3 months now and no concerns.
I think he has a bit of speech delay, he still never really babbled much, his first word was ‘daddy’ at nearly 16 months and only had 10 words at 2 years old. Now he’s got just over 50, so slightly delayed bits it’s coming together.

his understanding is incredible, I could ask him to get a ball and bring it to me at about 10 months old and he could.

the crying in the car seat was a phase I think. It helped slightly removing the mirror (I couldn’t see him but he was happier. We also changed him from the baby car seat and bought a joie spin and he was much more comfortable - best decision ever!

he’s a happy little boy but still quite whingy all day. Not the easiest kid going 😂 very high needs and needs CONSTANT attention otherwise he’s just moping around, so still not content all the time but he’s just not one for toys he’s an active kid. If I could get rid of all his toys (and just have cars) and get a climbing frame I think he’d be happy 😂
the biggest thing I’ve learned and would do differently is stop worrying and googling things! It ruined my experience a little and although it’s good to keep an eye out if there are any development delays etc you can’t change it and it took some of the enjoyment out of that baby stage.

hope this helps and if you have any more questions just ask :)

Hi @FTM1995 @Littlesoul123 how are your little ones now?

Hi, so my boy is 3.5 now and I have absolutely no concerns. He’s somehow advanced with his speaking now (all came at once and now honestly doesn’t stop talking, he’s like a personal narrator following me round all day haha).

hes a sensitive little soul and still incredibly needy for our attention, but nothing to worry about, he’s funny, cheeky, sarcastic, and the most loving little thing ever.

its so hard when they’re@ tiny because a HV won’t do much anyway until their older.

hope this helps :)

Hi @FTM1995 wow that’s amazing! Yeah it’s just a constant worry, he isn’t babbling just blowing raspberry’s and odd throat noises and sometimes I feel his eye contact is off, can’t clap, wave or point, he’s just turned 10 months today!

I’d hate to say ‘don’t worry I’m sure everything’s fine’ because as a mum you constantly worry and good to be aware of things anyway, however I’ve definitely learnt they hit the milestones in their own time.

i called the health visitor when he was 18m about his speech and they said monitor until 2 and then if still nothing, they won’t intervene until 2.5. I got very irritated because I thought the whole point of early intervention was to be early haha. But they were right and he was just doing it in his own time :) and we honestly had no babbling like at all, said ‘mumma’ at 16m and I don’t believe he clapped or pointed for a long time.

mine walked at 10m so was probably focusing more on that. Maybe yours will be too :)

Hi, @FTM1995 yeah he’s pulling up stand and kinda cruising when he wants too🤣 ohhh it scares me so much each day I battle with it. What concerns would you say you had at ten months??
