I have a very very hyper 5 year old. He lacks concentration, struggles to stay engaged with activities. Repeatedly asked the same questions over and over. And he just can't keep still. He's just going into year one, so wait will wait a few months and discuss with his teacher. I am finding him very overwhelming with his needs to always wanting to be busy, he can't entertain himself, he wants me to play with him all the time. Theres no cooling off or chill time with him until he goes to bed at night. Just curious to see how and when other's dc were diagnosed with ADHD? Do/did your children display the same behaviour charterers has my ds?

DS was identified very early. He was formally diagnosed by tier 3 CAHMS by 18 months. It was the less than four hour sleep needed per day with the none-stop risk taking coupled with a scary intellect.
Within the first five minutes of his initial Tier 2 assessment whilst being asked why I thought he had ADHD he cracked the units key code security system, had climbed up the bookshelves taken the sink off the wall, taken all his clothes off yelling ‘I am a little pink pig’ before climbing up and out of the top window to chase a lawn mowing tractor he had spotted in the hospital grounds. To be fair tier 3 described him as one of the youngest, most hyperactive and extreme of the kids they had ever meet.
I am not sure how I survived his toddlerhood. I secured the house, made it. As safe as was possible
and slept with the keys under my pillow.Thankfully being diagnosed so early meant he was given a rarer than hens teeth place in a special needs nursery for two years funded by the education authority and CAHMS. It is worth pushing for support at school now as the right support in the first few years makes a huge difference later. My son mostly settled down once he discovered science and tech and became the main stream school poster boy for what was possible with the right support.
