When did your baby walk?

My son is 15 months and not yet walking unaided. Cruising and walking with us holding one hand but not quite there yet. Not massively concerned but just interested when your little ones started?

DD1 just after 12m, DD2 at 16m.
DD2 had a very effective one knee one foot shuffle that allowed her to use her hands so walking wasn't a big advantage for her.

Ah that sounds adorable! I find it interesting how different every baby is when it comes to walking.

I have a niece who didn't until about the same age. Absolutely fine physically now. Interestingly her little sister walked at 10MO and is crazy clumsy and didn't learn to ride a bike until she was almost 10.... it doesn't mean much. I'd bring it up with HV if he isn't walking by 18MO but I'll bet he is x

My almost 16 month isn’t quite walking yet. She can take a few steps unaided but that’s about it. I think if they’re not walking by 18 months is when you should talk to HV/GP.

My boy was 16 months

My oldest son was 16 months (his dad was 18 months). My youngest son is almost 14 months and not walking yet. Plenty of cruising though.

DD just before her 1st birthday, DS 15 months. DS bum shuffled so walking was a bit harder to master from the sitting position!

Eggcellent29 · 29/08/2021 12:03

11 months, but in my childcare work I’ve seen kids walk as late as 2 without any problems!

DD walked at sixteen months, now she's 20 months and walks forever (hates the push chair etc) and has started to run too.

Thanks everyone, seems like there's a big variation. My little boy has definitely got more confident on his feet the last few days so I assume it's any day now!

My DS was 17 months. He would walk holding our hands for a while before that but refused to do it unaided. I was starting to get a bit worried! Interestingly he was quite advanced in his speech, whereas my DD who walked at 12 months took a lot longer to get going with her words. They say children tend to concentrate on one thing or the other!

That's interesting, my son is also quite developed for his speech. I've heard before from friends it's usually one or the other too. Trying not to get concerned but it's easy to compare when all your friends babies is a similar age are starting to walk! We're also walking with him one handed but he won't let go yet.

My DS walked at 13 months but was crawling on all 4's at 7 months so he was able to get around quick by crawling for several months. He was more interested on his physical skills than language and communication. His language skills started unfolding just after two and is still on the slower side compared to his peers. He still has ants in his pants and very very active. As the pp have mentioned, I was told babies concentrate on one skill more than the other.

A couple of days off 18 months. Never cruised and only pulled herself up at 16 months. She bum-shuffled rather than crawled. It was frustrating for us all! She saw a physio who was concerned and then very surprised when she suddenly walked steadily at 18 months!

AegonT · 10/09/2021 11:13

My slow to walk daughter was advanced with fine motor skills and language.

Vbree · 17/09/2021 22:35

So he's finally taken some unaided steps today at 16 months. Still very wobbly and prefers taking my hand but progress!
